Incredible there are ppl out there like, “I’m sick but tested & it’s not COVID so thank god I don’t have to cancel my plans!” My dudes, it fully does not matter if it’s not COVID. I promise no one likes you enough to consent to getting whatever you’re giving. Stop being gross.

It is beyond absurd to see western media critical of mitigation efforts being dropped in China.

The very same media that was critical of their own countries being slow to drop Covid mitigation of any kind.

Yes, China is a crisis - we've been living it for 2.5 years...Newsflash!

Two years ago today, I said goodbye from a car park. As did thousands of others in the pre-vaccine era. Let's never forget the damage this pandemic did, or how dramatically vaccines changed its course.

Parent rejection of a child’s gender identity is one of the greatest predictors of depression and suicidality for #trans people.

The Biden White House requiring negative tests for only China is a move that puts politics over public health, and increases the likelihood of xenophobia and attacks on Asian people in the US.

Alan Turing was a mathematician & cryptographer who was a leading code-breaker in the team that decrypted Nazi Germany’s Enigma machine during WWII. He inspired modern computing & what became artificial intelligence.

Instead of being hailed as a genius & hero, Turing was convicted as a homosexual & forced to endure chemical castration. He died by suicide at 41 in 1954.

The British government didn’t apologize until 2009 & Queen Elizabeth II finally pardoned him in 2013. #history #science

A strong, strong reminder.

There’s no room for COVID complacency in 2023.

“And (the public health community) mustn’t forget what experience has shown since 2020: that health-care systems under stress are little able to deal with new threats”. nature.com/articles/d41586-022

#StarTrek #TNG just casually talking about how arbitrary #gender is, as a minor plot point during an episode that aired in 1990. It still blows my mind that some people still can't grasp this stuff...

The single biggest mistake leaders keep making during this pandemic is believing that infinite lockdowns or vaccines-only are the only policy choices. This is a false dichotomy that continues to cause mass death and harm.

@chrisale I cannot get on Twitter, either. Last thing I saw was that I had 20+ notifications - will I forever be in suspense?

Red flag terms for COVID pandemic credibility debt:

* Droplets

* Robust hybrid immunity

* Exit wave

* Learn to live with

* Mild (e.g., Omicron is, endemic means)

* Immunity debt

* IFR as low as flu

* Evolutionary ceiling / running out of evolutionary space

She is growing frustrated with me
every day she asks
what I want for the holidays
and every day I respond
that I am still thinking
it’s not that I don’t know
what it is that I want
but it feels odd to say
that what I really want most
is for her
to go back to wearing a mask.

Here's the answer. The "why" of Public Health. Let that sit with you for a moment.
