@stopgopfox I would want to see more news sites (trhe kind that deal in real news, not faux news). But the big thing I wish was on most instances is a better way to deal with hashtags, so that you can see at a glance which hashtags you are following (including some kind of traffic metric so you can know which are clogging up your timeline). The qoto.org instance does let you see a list of the hashtags you are following (Yay!) but doesn't give you an easy way (one or two clicks) to follow a hashtag you might discover in your timeline (awwww....).
My #1 irritation with the Mastodon clients I have tried, including the web based ones, is that they don't have any concept of someone want to return to the same place in the timeline where they left off reading. Some mostly handle this but there are still situations where if you leave the timeline (for example to look at your preferences or at your follow list, etc.) when you come back to your timeline you see the most recent toot and then have to keep scrolling down until you find where you left off. That is super annoying, and I wish Mastodon were much better about keep track of what you have read and letting you return to that same spot.
(Don't even get me started on instances that only allow a maximum post length of 500 characters, that is another thing that is not an issue on qoto.org).
Fascist Ron DeSantis is demanding universities give him info on the number of transgender students they have
This includes information such as the ages of their students who sought gender dysphoria treatment, including sex reassignment surgery and hormone prescriptions

@democracydocket Wait, am I understanding this correctly? Ohio will not accept military ID as proof for voting? So much for Ohio's vaunted pro military stance. Ohio is apparently not worthy of being home to the extraordinary Air Force Museum or of Wright Patterson AFB. Whoops - goodbye 35,000 jobs!
Dear gods. This could result in Christofascism really being promoted in the US, as workers of other faiths find themselves out in the cold. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/23559038/supreme-court-groff-dejoy-religion-twa-hardison-workplace

Deeply distressing to learn that some abortion pill pharmacies are sharing customer data with Google (notably these all seem to be *pharmacies*, not telemedicine providers, which is different) https://www.propublica.org/article/websites-selling-abortion-pills-share-sensitive-data-with-google?utm_source=sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=majorinvestigations&utm_content=feature

Washington state bill would make period-tracking apps follow #privacy laws in reflection of post-Roe fears
A bill introduced by Democrats in Washington's state legislature would prevent private health data that is collected by apps -- particularly those that track #menstrual cycles -- from being shared without consumers' consent.

My latest piece, out this evening, is on the latest from election deniers: Alabama is one of the few states that elected an election-denying secretary of state in 2022.
And the first effect was swift: the new SoS announced within his first day that Alabama would be quitting a national consortium to help update voter rolls. https://boltsmag.org/alabama-secretary-of-state-leaves-eric/
I missed this on the first read through. This "co-parenting" framing is just bizarre here. What a way to obscure what this actually is.
