I have put #linuxmint on the machine of my parents for this exact reason. Its super stable and due to its rather conservative development approach the UI stays familiar them (low intensity users with Windows background). They will find their way around even if they only use the machine once a week.

It saved us a lot of money and my support effort mostly remains limited to major release upgrades.

Another sad moment from VA: “Virginia Republican lawmaker Tim Anderson just announced he is suing Barnes and Noble for selling books that promote LGBTQIA+ rights. It is no longer just about banning books in schools - they are now coming for private businesses.”

I’m reminded that before WWII VA had euthanasia laws on the books for the mentally ill and “sexually deviant”. Germany sent people to study them.

Problem is, these people are going to fill up our hospitals so that the rest of us can't get care when we need it. Like they've done during several of the COVID surges.

Maybe we should start a follow-up campaign to Catturd's. "You know what they give you at the hospital? MEDICINE. Stay away!"

This is having exactly the chilling effect the DeSantis crowd wants, but it's not just Florida or even Texas where school librarians are being constrained from buying books for kids to read. It's Kansas City, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Maine. Even a Brooklyn librarian has concerns about delays in purchases that are keeping kids from having new books to read.

Guess which books are being denied? Books that deal with LGBTQ subjects, books by and about Black people, books about American history and slavery, and books that mention violence and guns. Kids want to read about these subjects.

A Florida pastor said that "children don’t need to be introduced" to sexuality. He wants a "pristine" library. He can stay at church and hide his own head in the sand. Other people including adolescents would like to read about it. Life is not pristine.

Lack of new books is keeping kids from reading. It's only late January, but so far...

With #OpenCore even my good old 2012 Mac mini runs Ventura 13.2 very smoothly. 😃

I installed the latest macOS Monterey updates. It then said to restart. I click the restart button, it tells me I have more updates, downloads them (they're already downloaded), then tells me to restart to install. Infinite loop. I manually restart. The updates hadn't actually installed. So now what? JFC, Apple, get your 💩 together.
