My response at this point when emailers ignore my unsubscribe attempts: I just filter ALL emails from the offenders directly to the junk mail folder. Takes ~15 seconds and it's done.

Note: I do generally recognize -- and do not respond to -- scam/phishing emails. What I'm talking about here are the "legitimate" businesses that either don't care enough to do this right, or figure I won't notice when they ignore my requests.

Is it just me, or are email "unsubscribe" links more and more a "we'll remove you if we feel like it" gesture than actual ways to get off even non-scammer lists?

Twitter and Elon Musk

I just woke to Twitter push notifications on my phone from both TMZ and Elon Musk.

Needless to say I don’t follow these accounts and I don’t have push notifications turned on for either of them. Elon’s getting more and more desperate every day.

@TonyStark
All the good things you've said about Swalwell, Omar & Schiff are true. They are people of proven integrity.
But isn't POTUS also?
Biden has been in politics for half a century, & what are his worst scandals?
*He's old?
*He loves his son, even tho he's made mistakes?
*He used to give fatherly hugs that were inappropriate?
*His staff accidentally packed away TS docs in his home?
FFS.
Biden has earned respect.
I wish Americans appreciated him more.

A few thoughts on Meta's reinstatement of Trump
-Clegg implied that the mostly peaceful transfer of power during the 2022 midterms factored into Meta's decision. But as others have pointed out the risks associated with midterms and presidential elections are very different.

With House Republicans proposing to abolish the IRS and institute a highly regressive mode of "simpler" taxation designed to bankrupt (or just starve) the federal government, I'm reminded of that time in 1996 when Walter Huss, an Oregon Christian Nationalist with ties to neo-Nazis and far right domestic terrorists who'd chaired the OR GOP in 1978, excitedly corresponded with Pat Buchanan about his "nation saving" single tax plan idea.

From the end of January, #Microsoft will stop selling #Windows10 licenses so people will be forced to get #Windows11, and you really shouldn't. Windows 10 already was an atrocious operating system when it came out in 2015, but Windows 11 is worse in many aspects, this video from @switchedtolinux explains it really well. Take this channel's name as an advice to escape from Microsoft's proprietary garbage and start using #Linux and #FreeSoftware.

@idoubtit Statements like this will always make the ACLU appear as a fringe group (or worse) to many Americans. But remember, this is the group that defended the rights of nazis to hold a demonstartion in Skokie, Illinois in 1977. After that I never thought much of them, and really nothing has happened in the years since to improve my opinion of them. So, this statement is not at all out of character for them.

I have never thought that the free=speech absoluteists are grounded in reality. As far as I can tell, their thinking is, if you put restrictions on free speech for anyone (including speech you don't like) then someone else can put restrictions on speech you do like. But what they don't get is that the U.S. Constitution is terribly ineffective at preventing people from putting blocks on speech you may like - for example notice all the places where bans are being imposed on textbooks and library books in schools. Those are clearly unconstitutional if you take the constitution at face value, but we don't do that in this country and have never done that. So what the ACLU is proposing is a "we'll play fair and you play fair" strategy and the other side is saying, "sure, we'll play fair" and the turning around and trying to ban everything they don't like or that makes them look bad. The ACLU in effect says "We believe in free sppech so much that we'll support your right to free speech even when we disagree with that speech", and the other side thinks "That's great for us, but you're a bunch of effing morons if you think we'll reciprocate!"

It's that sort of magical thinking that makes the ACLU a fairly ineffective orghanization (at best), in my opinion.
