I have been surrounded by gay, trans, and drag queens my whole adult life. Not once have I ever had to fear violence or harm from any of them, or had to have special training in case one came into my workplace. Meanwhile, I have been bullied and threatened by “Christians”, harassed by cops, and have to be trained out in case someone shows up at the office with an AR-15.

Because of the rise of anti-science thinking and conspiracy theories I have been dreading a day when, if you want to tell a ghost story while camping you must first soberly explain that ghosts aren't real.

But ghosts ARE real. They are real while you are telling the story, that's the whole point to let them be real for a little bit and then... to let it go.

It's real in the way that myths are real. Are we too deep into the age of nonsense for wonder and fun to survive?
