It's no exaggeration that Ron DeSantis wants to kill people. I'm not putting a cw on this post about capital punishment. Stop here if you don't want to read more.

As societies mature, they move away from capital punishment. 23 states and DC have abolished the death penalty and 3 states have a moratorium.

The rest of the western democracies have stopped executing people. The leaders are China (by far), Iran, and Saudi Arabia.

DeSantis wants to be able to kill people for more reasons, and doesn't care that what he's doing is unconstitutional. Current law requires a unanimous jury to impose the death penalty, and there are few state crimes for which it can be imposed. (It can for federal crimes like terrorism and treason.) DeSantis doesn't care. He figures it can go to SCOTUS, which will overturn its own precedent.

It will probably result in more murders, because capital punishment for other crimes removes the incentive to not kill victims.

He's a monster.

When trump was elected, I was horrified. People said to me, “Give him a chance.” Yeah, well how did that work out? We have unleashed the underbelly of hate, lies, and bigotry. I knew from the second I heard that despicable audio of him bragging about sexual assault what he was and capable of. We now have libraries and classrooms empty of books. We have scum showing zero compassion for an 82 year old man being attacked with a hammer.

This is absurd. Woman goes into early labor, goes to an in-network hospital, but the doctors worked for an out of network hospital? So they parents are on the hook for $12K? RIDICULOUS.

Please shut up forever about how cool it is to "shop for your healthcare" LITERALLY NO ONE WANTS TO DO THAT. This is "shopping for your healthcare": being wheeled into the ER and having to check to make sure EVERY PERSON is in your network. Completely impractical and ridiculous.

The most exceptional thing about America is how you can, in an instant, lose access to healthcare because you were so sick you dared to access that healthcare during paid time off from the job that healthcare is necessarily attached to. America is exceptionally cruel and wantonly greedy when it comes to…everything…but especially a suffering-mitigating, lifesaving public good that *everyone* should have full access to, without bankrupting themselves. Healthcare is a human right.

Now the Fire Brigades Union has voted overwhelmingly (88% on a 74%turnout) for #strike action here in the UK. The Tories have destroyed public services, all the while lining their own pockets. They must go.
