@elementary OS 7 is now out! It brings an updated base and #Linux kernel, even more great touchpad gestures, refined applications, more settings and options, and a solid foundation over which to build for the next year.
But is it enough for me to go back to my first Linux love?
Let's look at everything new in this release, and if I'll switch to it:
Most of this is a result of the massive cost cutting the new owners at Discovery have been undertaking to pay down the huge debt run up overpaying for AT&T’s disastrous acquisition of Time Warner (Entertainment). More merger and acquisition idiocy….

1. UPDATE: On JANUARY 23, http://popular.info reported that Florida were teachers told to remove books from classroom libraries or risk felony prosecution
A thread I posted about the story ultimately accumulated more than 11 million views

TL/dr verion of the review:
"Post is pretty, and also pretty boring. Mastodon is promising and free from corporate rule, but also a bit unwieldy. Both need some serious culture fixes to appeal to marginalized communities. But at the end of the day, Mastodon is the platform with real transformative potential. While Post will be another corporate platform run on the whims of yet another rich white guy, Mastodon is a network made by and for users...."

From SCOTUS claims that it can't identify a leaker to lying liar George Santos to conspiracy theorists running government investigations, the concept of reality feels more tenuous by the day.

Bird charity locked out of Twitter after woodcock tweets

Still waiting for a comment from twitter but Musk apparently said this is ironic.
Hmm, so twitter allows racist and anti Semites on but post about a bird and you get this..
@Anarchy_How @KFuentesGeorge
I guess that's your opinion Kemi but I *know* I don't fundamentally misunderstand America when I use that language and will continue to do so.
It creates a cognitive dissonance that #ChristoFascists and #TheocraticNationalists have to reconcile.
The Taliban and their oppressive nature which is based in religious fervor is something the #ReichWing has railed about for decades. So to use #ChristianSharia or #USTaliban makes it to where they MUST face this hypocrisy.
Today, the US #NLRB issued a finding of merit in two of my charges against #Apple. The NLRB agreed with my claim that Apple's NDAs & employee policies are unlawfully restrictive & chilling to the point of violating federal labor law
The best part of this is that these charges are about Apple's employee policies & statements made to workers nationally. Apple's remedy will also need to be national. All the hell the last two years is worth it for this. Let us be free. 🕊️ 💙
The prolific liar from New York has reportedly decided to do the bare minimum to serve the people of New York's 3rd congressional district. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/george-santos-recuses-himself-committee-seats-1234671474/

NEW: A Jacksonville megachurch is requiring members to sign a new, anti-LGBTQ pledge committing to adhere to “biblical sexuality” — or leave the church. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/florida-megachurch-lgbtq-pledge-1234671423/
@major This might be a good place to ask that question...
It's starting to crack. This is clearly what Santos' meeting with McCarthy was about yesterday.
Now get him to resign.
Rep. George Santos is stepping down from committees amid fabrications about his biography https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/01/31/santos-fabrications-committee-assignments-republicans/
This CNBC story about threats to freedom of speech on the Internet is like almost every other Big Journalism piece -- it treats Section 230 as something protecting only "big tech" while ignoring the truth, that it protects all of us. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/30/the-supreme-court-could-change-free-speech-on-the-internet.html
Traditional media are eager to see the end of Section 230, and coverage has been skewed this way for years. Dishonest journalism on this topic is the rule, not the exception.
If you are still using Twitter, do not -- DO NOT -- use direct messages for anything you consider sensitive in any way. This goes triple for the journalists who insist on pouring their work into a site whose sociopath CEO has utter contempt for the press.

I often get the sense that quite a few people do not actually know what I write about and instead make assumptions about what I must write about based on another set of assumptions about who I must be.
But, if you ask me, I write about democracy, and this column — about the near-total absence of accountability for American police departments — is very much about democracy.
