@nixCraft It is because before computers Americans traditionally wrote out dates in a format like January 31, 1900. Then computers came along and wanted the month expressed as numbers, so 01/31/1900.

I think most Americans can handle the YYYY-MM-DD formart without it breaking our brains but the European DD.MM.YY format just makes no sense to us. Putting the day in front of the month just seems absolutely wrong to us, in part because we have never done it that way but also if you are planning an event, in many cases the month is the first thing you want to know, then the day. But you only need to know the year if the event is more than a year away.

Incredible improvements in the Twitter app lately. It once struggled to take up even half this much system memory

Over at @dailydot I wrote about how TikTok hysteria is a manufactured moral panic by unserious politicians who don't actually care about privacy, and a distraction from our multi-decade failure on consumer protection:

What a disgrace the "nonprofit" College Board has made of itself -- "strips down" the Advanced Placement program in African American Studies to satisfy racist critics. (AP courses are a BILLION-dollar revenue item for this outfit...)

@OpsecNews I suspect English is not your priomary language because your question as written makes no sense, but if you are attempting to avoid malware then I would look into running Avira and/or Malwarebytes.

Trump once said only 'the mob' uses the Fifth Amendment. Now we find out he pleaded the fifth more than 400 times in his fraud deposition. What would Donald Trump’s “Mob Name” be?

@stopgopfox
I've been a #freethenipple activist for over ten years, trying to normalize the sight of female nipples in nonsexual situations so that maybe someday we can have the same rights to be topless in public and online as men (crazy idea, right?)

as you'd expect, I have been banned hundreds of times "from every platform you've heard of, and some you haven't," and I've got the screenshots to prove them. my last suspension on Twitter, which allows hardcore porn as long as it is in the posts not the header or profile pic, was for "sexually explicit profile pic"... it was a photo of my infant son breastfeeding, with no heinous female nipple even visible in the first place.

so I changed it to a topless picture of myself, but with my nipples censored out by intentionally-poorly-photoshopped-in assault rifles. that profile picture stayed up unbothered for two years, until I finally quit Twitter for good.

Maybe it's because I was raised from birth not to freak out about nudity (which is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than sex, and I have no idea how anyone gets it into their head that all nudity is sexual, but somehow lap dances etc aren't as long as they keep their clothes on?) but I've never understood the normalization of US culture around violence and guns, and yes, even a photo of a gun just sitting there is violent imo. my preschooler and first grader have to go through open shooter drills. every public place is another mass shooting waiting to happen. calling a gun a mere "tool" and derailing with "anything could be deadly if you use it that way" is such a bad faith argument its not even worth discussing.

Anyway. often whenever I'm watching a video on YouTube, or looking through a gaming magazine, etc, I chuckle bitterly to myself imagining the PUBLIC OUTCRY there would be if a single gun in there was replaced with a single female nipple.

this country is so pathetic and screwed up.

#Apple allows to override these security settings but it's probably never really explained / shown to users. If you try executing a non-vetted software programme through the common approaches of search (I know, but that's what our students do), double-click or command-O, #macOS will block your attempts with a warning message. But if you right-click on the programme and select "Open", the warning message get's the option to override Apple's security settings at your own risk.

The problem is, most of our students and colleagues don't even know that there is (and always has been despite the infamous single button mouse) a right-click on macOS.

Not really understanding why people are deer-eyedly reporting on #OpenAI claiming to have ready an AI-backed #ChatGPT Detector. ChatGPT can't write a damn haiku if you spend a day correcting its syllable counts. Unless this 'detector' just looks for a final paragraph starting with the word "Overall" and flags that as 'maybe' I foresee a lot of false positives and false negatives from a Perfectly Reliable ChatGPT Detector causing a lot more trouble than ChatGPT by itself ever would have.

From @FLFreedomRead over on Twitter:

Yesterday we logged almost 200 challenges- about 150 of those resulted in immediate removals.

This is a picture of all the books removed from one HS library, in one day, in one District, due to the objections of one man.

This is not freedom. #FreeTheBooks
