While the topic of #dragons may seem frivolous and not indicative of #OpenAI’s systems, to me it actually hints at how and where fine tuning efforts are going and what the system looks like without the fine tuning. With fine tuning it can be nudged to give correct answers. Without it, the whole transformer model just smushes content together to imagine answers instead of saying “do not know”. You know that statement we encourage children and adults to use with courage.

I continue to caution people using #OpenAI to generate content or answers on topics that the individual has surface level knowledge of. Out of curiosity I asked it to generate an “about” section of a stormcutter dragon from the #HowToTrainYourDragon series. There’s enough content on the internet for it to do so. It just generated an entirely fictional description of a #dragon with feathers and iridescent scales. And it imagined the dragon to appear in the first movie as well. #AIHallucinations

Good morning, the empty bookshelves in Florida schools keep my head busy, since I'm a teacher with a library in my classroom in Berlin myself. That's a history lesson in front of our very eyes and exactly how fascism started in Germany. Books were banned and then burnt and everyone said, well, I can't do anything, I don't want to loose my job, I don't like it, but... Many little steps were made by many little people who didn't stand up against a new little rule. You know how this ends.

Kinda hoping that Netflix's new "we'll ban you if you watch the Netflix account you paid for outside of your home too much" story turns into a "New Coke"-style business school case study in how to do something totally stupid that pisses off your most loyal customers, and leads Netflix to reverse course quickly.

It’s frankly embarrassing for a company to be so hard-up for subscribers that it requires people to give notice and supplicate themselves for the right to watch a movie at a friend’s house.

It’s fascinating remembering that pre-streaming Netflix caught on because it was the *good, simple* disc rental service that wouldn’t nickel-and-dime you over complicated technicalities, compared to the dominant Blockbuster model theverge.com/2023/2/1/23581421

All technology is an absurd game where you jump from one slowly sinking platform to another as hardware changes, operating systems update, underlying libraries evolve, protocols upgrade, and features get added. It's honestly amazing anything ever works.

Oooh. Just learned about this Mastodon Threaded Reply Viewer (made by @b0rk and discovered it thanks to a mention from @filippo). Not sure how practical it is currently for me, but again, I'm impressed at all the cool development going on these days.
