CBS News pressed Sen. Ted Cruz on why he's running for reelection after he introduced a bill limiting senators to 2 terms in office: 'Why aren't you holding yourself to that standard?'

In #siliconflatirons the TX and FL social media laws are described as "blatantly unconstitutional". A better phrasing would add "according to all mainstream and/or cogent interpretations of precedent".
If SCOTUS says anyway "nope, these are cool" - and they can - we will have entered a difficult place. We'll have to accept that outcome, because short of constitutional amendment, we have no tools for challenging that. The legacy / legitimacy of the court will be further undermined.
I feel like part of why the right is so susceptible to moral panics about “the libs are coming for your X” is that they very much do want to come for other people’s X and assume everyone must work that way.
They want to come for your social safety net, your gender affirming care, your right to not be discriminated against in the workplace, your reproductive rights, your diet, your media, your non-conservative Christian religion or lack thereof, your identity.

Pres. #Biden did do something. He SHOT IT DOWN.
Senator, any word on the 3 #ChineseSpyBalloons that the #Trump administration neither publicly disclosed nor shot down?

Btw if mastodon makes you nervous cause there's a lot of etiquette that seems expected of you, don't worry. Just ignore the mastodon cops. I do and nobody complains, and if they did I'd just block em
Post what you want when you want how you want. Make shitposts, post your terrible jokes, post 30 times a day about the project you're working on, post stream of consciousness. If people don't like it they can unfollow or mute or block, but in my experience nobody cares and the mastodon cops are just buttmad that there's more people on here now and they can't control the tone of every conversation anymore
‘They’ve taken away my freedom’: the truth about the UK state’s crackdown on protesters
There was an unprecedented wave of arrests of reporters at Just Stop Oil actions.
One police chief seemed to imply that this was not an accident, saying that reporters were “part of the problem” and they should not give protesters “the oxygen of publicity”.
@mattsheffield And yet, if you drill down further with them, the "hard" is mostly "I hated having to choose a server."
The media loves the "too hard" narrative, because, as several industry ninjas have told me, network people behind the scenes need and like Twitter and have no reason to enable an alternative.
Further, I believe most Americans feel they need to offer a pretext for not spending a few minutes learning something new so they don't appear lazy.
I’ve just converted a Twitter bot over to a Mastodon bot and it was an absolute breeze 😎
Mastodon’s API is wonderful to work with. If you’re using Node, I’d highly recommend masto.js: https://github.com/neet/masto.js/

Republicans: Haha! I'm making light of mass shootings, because that proves I'm a manly, manly man.
Also Republicans: A balloon! Eek! Save me from the scary scary balloon! Waaaaah! Balloon!

@ross EFF's first Senior Fellow for Decentralization, with an excellent piece rebutting the nonsense that the WaPo columnist wrote about #mastodon and the #fediverse 👇🏾
"The question isn't if the fediverse can replace Twitter, but if protocols can usurp platforms in our life online. With enough momentum the fediverse can be the fabric of the social web, incorporating existing systems like Tumblr and Medium and outright replacing stragglers."
Such BS, do not fall for this. The fact that he can change the rules on a whim is enough of a reason to continue with your plans to migrate your bots away from Twitter's unstable platform.
Probably best to just turn your bots off and not let this guy decide their fate.
Ah, so now he wants you to produce free content for his dying, unstable platform, after threatening you, on a whim, to shut off your free access. I see.
In response, I will be discontinuing all my projects that rely on Twitter's API, and I advise you all to do the same, rather than let him decide their fate.

It’s not every day an established conservative judge steps into the limelight to school his party in an effort to save democracy. But Judge J. Michael Luttig is not your average jurist 👨⚖️⚖️ #velshi http://ow.ly/itCt50MK0KR
I taught in a high school where less than half of students went on to post-secondary. Final exams were in no way preparation for these students, so we dropped them for most courses. In senior-level optional science and math classes, we continued with comprehensive finals, because those students were more likely to go to university. Different methods for different students just makes sense.
