Just a tip for hacks out there:
When discussing the Russian invasion of #Ukraine, framing the war continuing as Ukrainians "holding out" or "refusing to give up", you're using Russian biased language.
If you're not framing the continuing war as Russia refusing to leave a country they have invaded, then you're not doing your job

The right certainly celebrated the seizing of CNN, just as Putin celebrated invading Ukraine. And Musk the seizing of twitter.

I think the saddest part of living in a country that upholds "Work until you drop or starve" as the standard is the notion that if you're unable to find a job that pays enough to keep you alive with a roof over your head, you're a loser. It doesn't matter if you can't find employment that pays a living wage. It doesn't matter how hard you try. If you can't, you don't deserve to be treated like a human being. After a while, it makes the victim of such an economy feel like they ARE a loser.
@djwfyi I will throw one other thought out there. When I was a small child I would sometimes ask my dad why some person (usually an older person) who hadn't been suffering from any known disease or condition had died. My dad would respond by saying they had just lost the will to live.
I always suspected there was something to that. The older we get, the harder life gets, but now it looks like we just might be about to go full tilt boogie into really terrible times, between the people who want to turn the USA and the rest of the world into a fascist state, and the insane rulers of nations that seem to be actually considering escalating whatever conflicts are breaking out. Can it be any wonder that some people - hopefully a very small percentage - maybe decide they just don't care if they get sick and die. They may have beliefs against suicide and may not be ready to take that step yet, but feel that if a virus gets them that's their get out of jail free card, so to speak. Of course if they are thinking that way they probably are not considering that they might pss the virus on to friends and loved ones; I doubt that even enters their thought process because they are not actively trying to die, and maybe not even consiouusly hoping to die, but then again they may not have much enthusiasm for trying to continue living.
Don't know how that would fit into your list but to me it's one of the few explanations for why some people refuse to get vaccinated or take any other precautions to avoid getting #COVID.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about why there are so many less workers now than there were in '19.
Let me explain.
- A new sickness emerged.
- We ignored it for a while.
- We took it seriously for approximately 2 seconds.
- We let it rip.
- Lots of people died and are still dying.
- Lots more people became or are becoming disabled to mild or severe degrees, with no prognosis of recovery.
- We aren't sure what else will happen to the infected.
That's what happened and is still happening.

@Radicalfaery @atheistengineer Oh boy, I remember that line about the "god-shaped hole" - I think that came out of one of the big evangelical organizations (Billy Graham or Bill Bright or somebody like that) and it stuck. I wondered how they would have responded if someone, upon being told that everyone had this hole, had simply said, "Well I don't!"
The other thing that was weird as their belief that you could be "saved" right up to the moment of death, but not thereafter. So you could live your entire life in what they considered a "sinful" way, but as long as you said a "sinner's prayer" on your deathbed you were okay, but if you crossed over into the afterlife and immediately said such a prayer it was null and void. Only problem is that their holy book never said anything like that. Specifically, there is nothing that says your afterlife experience changes just because you say a particular prayer just before death. It does say that after you die there will be a "judgement" (or what near death experiencers commonly call a "life review", but of course the church had to turn it into something negative) but you aren't exempted from that just because you said a particular prayer.
So, basically, all their efforts to "evangelize" and convert people probably didn't do them a bit of good in the afterlife, but as we have seen lately it's turned a lot of people into terrible assholes BEFORE they die. Personally I think you would be a lot better off to never have said a single prayer in your life, but treated other people right to the best of your ability, than to have spent day and night in prayer but all the time wishing hateful things on the people you don't like (or have been taught not to like by those miserable excuses for humanity that pass thermselves off as preachers or ministers, but who are very much like the scribes and the Pharisees about which Jesus had not one good word to say).
