Now THIS is a good article about the Fediverse.

Not only is it a good explainer for what the Fediverse is, it's technically accurate and explains everything in plain language.

Also, I'm yoinking the phrase, "There’s no *center* of the Fediverse" for future use.

Welcome to Twitter

Where free speech means you ban any left leaning activists, like Chad Loder

and reinstate literal Nazis like Nick Fuentes, Andrew Anglin, and (convicted murderer and arsonist) Burzum.

Anyone still on #Twitter is literally funding the alt-right with their interactions and data.

I have zero respect for that.

"Emboldened by their political donors & legislative allies, some state court judges have refused to remove themselves from cases in which they have clear conflicts of interest. This is the opposite of the fair or impartial. It’s a total failure of ethics."

Feminist Daria Serenko, Little Big frontman Ilya Prusikin, and the Dalai Lama's envoy Telo Tulku Rinpoche finally have something in common: they (and several other individuals and organizations) have just been added to Russia's "foreign agent" list.

"Mastodon seems to be winning the open-source, decentralised version of Twitter. People seem to be going there"

It's worth reading when Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter says this about Mastodon.

The Ohio GOP knows that voter fraud in Ohio is extremely rare. It’s rare everywhere.

By the Ohio Secretary of State’s own account, all of 27 cases of voter fraud in the 2020 general election were referred for prosecution. Ohio voters cast a total of nearly 6 million ballots. The fraud rate is all of 0.0005%.

But the GOP will never miss an excuse to disenfranchise voters.

It’s important for Ohio voters to know about these changes and for everyone to follow state election legislation.

It’s also going to be important for anyone who can to help people get voter ID. Here’s a good organization to that end.

Today's dumbest, most annoying story is that telco lobbyists have successfully fed a completely bullshit story to right wing rags about how Gigi Sohn supports "sex trafficking" because she's on EFF's board, and EFF is (correctly) against FOSTA (which a court is likely to declare unconstitutional) techdirt.com/2023/01/27/new-du

Scripts popping up that allows one to "interact with the #terminal in plain English using GPT-3".

that's not to say there's no potential security risks at all, just that they're not singularly specific to TikTok, and the people hyperventilating the loudest about this are bad faith bullshit artists with an abysmal track record on consumer privacy and protection

Turns out that integrating hooks into shell-scripts is really darn simple …

# on fail do default action run_hook() { [ -n "$1" ] && bash -c "$1" }

export VARIABLE_WHICH_IS_USEFUL_FOR_HOOK="something" run_hook "$HOOK_COMMAND" || default_action

In Georgia -- and other states controlled by Republicans -- protest is being turned into a criminal act. This is only the latest attack on democratic values and norms from a party that sees abuse of citizens, with impunity, as a key way of staying in power. theintercept.com/2023/01/27/co
