Next up: "Police Mugshot"

#DALLE2 here again being an outlier, like it specifically has parameters and filters to avoid spouting out blatant biases (unless you're a bit clever with the prompt, I guess...) Lest that reflects poorly on #OpenAI...

We'll shortly see more guerilla models do not have those....

10 years ago this might have been interesting. Now? After looking at how Musk has handled Twitter, and shown how little regard he gives to individuals' welfare, this is just going to be a factory town, more similar to the ones found at the beginning of the 20th century than anything innovative or revolutionary.

Question about security keys:

Everything I read tells me security keys are the best MFA option.

Yes, but, a PC Mag article (pcmag.com/how-to/so-youre-lock) about what to do if you lose it says most sites let you pick an alternative 2FA option on login, like SMS. Doesn't this mean a security key is useless at most sites since a hacker can just opt for the less secure MFA option like SMS after they do a SIM swap attack? What's the point of the security key then?

And this too. Physical keys are easy to lose, forget, and can get damaged. What if you're at the airport and boom, no key and no second, less secure option, is available because you wanted to make login ultimately secure? Is it worth this risk?

Do infosec specialists use only a physical key for personal account login?

NASA recently published images of the stunning progress Nepal has made restoring its forests.

This is thanks in large part to a plan to put communities in charge of conserving nearby forests.

Instead of planting trees, why not give forests back to people?

Michael Sainato: ‘It’s just crazy’: #Republicans attack US child labor laws as violations rise: Changes lawmakers are seeking, such as expanding types of approved work, will potentially ‘put kids in dangerous situations’

"As child labor law violations have been on the rise in the US, some state legislators are pushing for changes at state and federal levels to roll back protections in what some see as a threat to return child labor to the country.

The laws aim to expand permissible work hours, broaden the types of jobs young workers are permitted to do, and shield employers from liability for injuries, illnesses or workplace fatalities involving very young workers."

Remember many of the same Republicans who shouted "liar" during the State of the Union address refuse to expel George Santos from Congress.

@GatekeepKen @TeaPain

There's very few Republican billionaire donors funding sedition.

Around 63. That's manageable.

Most are elderly. Go after their sources of income.

Buy less gasoline. Switch to a heat pump. Go solar. Don't shop at Uline, Home Depot or Hobby Lobby. Protest pipeline construction. Don't buy Oracle. Support Ukraine. Stay out of the stock market. Support taxing the rich. Support laws restricting hedge funds & ending Citizens United.

There seems to be another wave of anti-remote working articles doing the rounds, including one that is apparently saying we need the commute home to psychologically switch off from work.

Since I have gone 100% remote I have never been happier. At the end of the day I lock my laptop, walk through a door and I'm home. I get to spend more time with my wife and boys, I'm not tired out from the stress of commuting, and at the weekends I want to get out and do stuff and I can afford to because I'm not spending on fuel or public transport.

I'm sure some people prefer to be in the office all the time. Some prefer to be at home all the time. Some prefer a mix. Why can't it be left at that? Stop with the anti-remote rhetoric and companies, if you're listening, the best way to get good people is to be flexible.

First the Daily Mail, an actual trash rag, has a "science" section..lolllll
And they have a "tech correspondent"... lollllll
The "culture war" BS is pretty on brand for them so talking about #ChatGPT being "woke" is pure💩 click bait

The people who stay...make it a busier, more exciting place...the next surge will find an even higher equilibrium as users who try Mastodon find more fully acclimated users who can hold their hands as they get settled in, and also provide the vibrant community that presents a good reason for doing so."

When a school board, a library or a state bans books, it’s not a show of strength. It’s a sign they’re ruled by fear. Fear of knowledge. Fear of opposing views. Fear of democracy.

elon musk has figured out the one weird trick for not having to pay the employees you fired: make them sign arbitration agreements, then don't select arbitrators or pay the arbitration firms

"the company is refusing to pay its share of filing fees to the arbitration company... in cases where the arbitration agreement does not specify a particular arbitration firm, Twitter will not agree on selecting an arbitrator, simply ignoring her emails to Twitter’s own lawyers."

I’ve been a teacher in elementary school and an adjunct professor of education for the past 30 years. What DeSantis is doing with education is fascism pure and simple. And the College Board going along with the whitewashing of the AA AP courses is not only shameful and a threat to our country and to democracy! I’ve lost my faith in the College Board and any of us who are in this field need to make our voices heard!!
