The phrase "government approved book" or "government approved curriculum" should alarm everyone. #Indoctrination is the process of teaching people to accept ideas uncritically. Only presenting one idea and banning & demonizing any idea that counters it meets the definition.

In short, #Florida is seeking to indoctrinate students.

I ran out of the house and walked in the rain for 2 hours. Never attended again until years later… weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs. Until she died, grandma wrote me letters before every Jewish holiday with detailed instructions, “Passover starts at sundown on Tuesday. Don’t forget.” I threw them in the trash. She never gave up hope I’d come back. After she died, Dad also stopped going to schul. He knew it was bullshit too.

I remember the first time I refused to attend synagogue. First night of Rosh Hashanah, 1975. I was 16 and had realized by then I was an atheist. “I’m not going. It’s all bullshit.” My dad was furious. He screamed, “What’s your grandma going to say?!” Ironically, Dad had had his own revolt. Grew up in an orthodox house. Married a non-jew. (Mom converted while pregnant with me.) By then he was reformed.

Parents shouldn't force children to attend church against their will. At least, they shouldn't if their goal is something other than making it more likely that their children will grow up disliking religion.
