The attack on Belgorod — how to spot Russian disinformation:

Russia has called for an emergency meeting at the UN security council, claiming Ukraine has attacked the city center of Belgorod, using Czech made RM-70 Vampire rocket systems (picture 1), and Russian social media accounts are full of videos of explosions inside the Belgorod city center.

But here is the problem (picture 2). The maximum range of RM-70 Vampire is 20 km, meaning even if Ukraine drove all the way up to the border…

This 83-year old Russian babushka was asked regarding the upcoming “elections” in Russia and tells how it is. She releases some serious truth bombs such as:

“Our people (Russians) are as dumb and as slavish possible.”

“The more I learn about this country (Russia), the more I hate it.”

“I was unhappy with the Soviet regime, but there was no such ugliness then as is now.”

The whole video is here and I can recommend to watch all of it:

By this day in 2002 all Russian soldiers in Moldova and Georgia were promised to be removed.

They were not. But please believe us when we negotiate now about our soldiers in Ukraine.

@randahl @Peternimmo This is also very worrying, if electric cars cannot be repaired just random new gadgets, having an initially much higher carbon footprint to produce, they can never earn those emissions back if their lifetime is very short… nrk.no/dokumentar/xl/hvorfor-l

For anyone who still thinks we shouldn’t prosecute Trump and his co-conspirators because their January 6 insurrection failed, consider this: there is no such thing as prosecuting a successful insurrection.

President Zelenskyy made a surprise visit in Avdiivka. He thanked personally soldiers at this very embattled city and awarded several of them for exceptional deeds beyond the call of duty.

It is unheard of that leaders of countries would choose to visit such dangerous areas, but unlike the Russian coward Putin, who even in confined spaces only dates to meet actors, President Zelenskyy shows what real leadership is.

I fully understand, it is difficult for YouTube to regulate a user driven medium of this size, but I believe, the EU and the US must demand of content platforms, that they have effective processes in place — at least for the bigger channels, where creators are making content for a living.

Deleting someone s entire livelihood and not having anyone content creators can talk to, simply does not suffice. This has to be fixed before we lose someone because they think, their career is over.

About a month ago, YouTube completely removed the YouTube channel Warthog Defence, effectively deleting all his work, and his contact with 637,000 subscribers. This week the YouTube team apologizes and says they made a mistake.

But then yesterday, they have demonitized another very popular YouTube channel, “Reporting from Ukraine”, and now he has to go through the stressful proces of spending weeks trying to get anyone at YouTube to listen. This is not a proper way to treat content makers.

Finally! The EU has found a legal way of supporting Ukraine, circumventing the Hungarian blockade, using special rules introduced under the pandemic.

This means an end to the veto blockade from Putin's Hungarian helper, Victor Orbán.

Zaluzhnyi , Ukraine commander-in-chief made this correct observation
"My main mistake is that I thought that such a number of losses as we inflicted would stop anyone. But it did not stop Russia,"
It's exactly how Putin wants to win , just overwhelm Ukraine in quantative terms, a difficult year lies ahead for Ukraine and Europe.

@randahl Actually not, while the approval by the committee is an important step, the parliament still has to approve it and a vote hasn’t been scheduled so far. But let’s hope for the best. And then there’s still Hungary…. *sigh* tagesschau.de/ausland/asien/tu

Great Christmas greeting from Danish military expert @anderspuck, who has a number of interesting points about #Ukraine now shooting down Russian fighter jets in the Kherson region.

It has been a really bad week for the Russian Air Force, that has lost five fighter jets. There is a lot of speculation that Ukraine is using the Patriot air defense system in an offensive role, but I just want to throw out there that this might also be what a surprise appearance by F-16 would look like…

The failure of American education over the past 80 years is we taught everybody to reject fascism, but neglected to teach anybody to recognize it.

With this news story making the rounds, it’s important that people keep the difference between a ceasefire and a peace deal in mind. I think it’s likely that Putin would like a ceasefire during the presidential election in Russia, but it’s not likely that he is ready to accept a peace deal at this point.
