Whoever named the nervous system did a really good job

If you think it’s horrible one billionaire bought up the public square and killed it, wait until you find out why your city doesn’t have a trolley system

@cstross I (who am totally not a robot) wish you a traditional American Giving of the Thanks as depicted in patriotic image of first Thankinggives at Plymouth The Rock. Has Turkeybird and Pilgrimship! Much American, very traditional, wow!

Drama this afternoon on road to Uisken. This snipe was committed to doing its wee dance in the road, and would not let my car past. It flew off 0.5 seconds after I got out to take this pic 😊 #Bird #Snipe #Mull

Yes, I *know* I turned it off myself 30 minutes ago. I’m not stupid, *you* are

You know, it would be *really* helpful if my phone would tell me that all that stuff I’m trying to do requires turning on ~data~, instead of just throwing up derpy “I can’t do that, no idea why” messages… 🙄

Take breaks & encourage them folks.

Healthy cultures value time off and encourage vacations and breaks to renergize. In toxic ones, burnout is proof of commitment and people often take long breaks just to recover from exhaustion.

Handy visual of what we often do vs. perhaps should:

@allochthonous @Geotripper One of my favorite fault traces: through the parking lot of the Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, TX USA. This is the surface expression of the Big Barn fault, a down-to-the-basin growth fault associated with salt withdrawal into two nearby salt diapirs. There is some fault gap exhibited here, too: you can stick your arm down into the gap in places in the parking lot! The fault also goes through some nearby neighborhoods, causing expensive damage. #geology

Hello world (and universe)! I'm a journalist from who writes about , , , , and whatever else is trending that day.

I am blundering about here on Mastodon as a beginner ... but believe in showing others that learning and growing at any age is a good thing. :)

In my spare time I enjoy ... and I'm also a beginner coder, because why not.

Drop by and say hi!

First #microscopy post from my #Pollen reference collection, here we go...

Tender-handed, stroke a nettle,
And it stings you for your pains.
Grasp it like a man of mettle,
And it soft as silk remains.

This little guy is #Urtica diocia, better known as #StingingNettle.

It is found all over the world in mild and temperate climates and has a long history of use as a source of traditional medicine, food, tea, and textile raw materials.

In 1959, police were called to a segregated library when a Black 9-year-old boy trying to check out books refused to leave, after being told the library was not for Black people.

The boy, Ronald McNair, went on to became an astronaut. The library is also now named after him

Andor season finale (mild spoilers)

This show is just so extraordinarily well-done. The procession cinematography, the music, the setup of all the key players on Ferrix, the quote from the manifesto, Maarva's speech, Andor's goodbye and the final scene ...

Can't wait to see what they do with Mon Mothma in S2 -- lots of promising build-up there!

I really want future Star Wars series to go in the direction Andor has. More world-building, more intrigue, less blatant fan service. It's such a rich galaxy with so much to explore outside of Force users.

Please, more.
