My favorite thing about Mastodon so far is that all of a sudden I have posts about history, archaeology, astrophysics etc in my timeline because even though I follow mostly the same people here as tweeter everyone branched out once they got here and started boosting cool people they ran into here.

I've resisted for a very long time, but today I was convinced because of a single phrase: "make this the norm".

Right. Because anyone who "has to" include their pronouns is feeling super awkward by doing so.

I have no idea why it's taken me this long to figure out that, by us all doing it, it's a way to care for others that directly impacts them.

Understanding #Mastodon gets easier once you get the basic idea that federation between servers can be understood as homeomorphisms across hyperplanes between the Riemannian manifolds of toots, whereas the servers represent countable finite sets of discrete entities.
