That said, yes, most other countries will have much better safety records, parricularly those with higher population densities that demand logistics excellence to keep thjngs moving. American infrastructure is crumbling and America seems pathologically phobic about public works projects that would employ blue-collar workers.

Meanwhile, Japan has a much larger culture of train usage, and has had only 214 derailments since 2001, according to the JTSB.

The Green Sea Turtle is another endangered species that ends up ingesting a lot of human trash in its stomach as well as getting caught in fishing nets. However, I saw more on this trip in the water and on land than I have ever before - so hoping the trend is reversing.
