Time for a bike ride! Won't be long before we will have a 95+ degree swamp. I don't understand why anyone moves to Florida. Winter visits I get (2 months of nice weather). But the rest of the time (oppressive heat, crushing humidity, zillions of bugs, glaring sun, expensive, De Santis, many storms and hurricanes).

Footprints on the Beach

My heart wants to be walking on the beach and leaving my footprints behind only to be washed away by mother nature.

Here's another rabbit from my Year of the Rabbit series. (This is 2D artwork with a stained glass effect - not real stained glass.)

What’s the only thing better than having your own Gulfstream jet? Why, getting to claim millions in tax deductions for it. All you have to do is make a case you’re using it for business, which turns out to be surprisingly easy.

@Julie A prediction: During one of his many entanglements with the courts Trump will actually become ill. His throng of sycophants will scream that the pressure of partisan justice has victimized him; quieter Never-Trumpers will rend their garments while loudly cursing the left; and people who advocate for AR-15 rights will tut-tut at the heartlessness of cold, merciless liberals.

And Randy Rainbow will make his best video yet.

Went back to see the Grebe this morning. A local told me that she has been nesting for about 10-14 days, so another 2 weeks and we should have some lovely baby Grebes 😀

Great news.

I doubt the GOP will ever learn that banning abortion and books and rights and voting will not continue to work in the long run. They will be rejected.

Thank you, Wisconsin voters and volunteers and to everyone and anyone who helped get out messages and the vote. It matters. #Wisconsin

@1finekitty Right. When it is my interests that are involved, then I get to adapt and choose, right bobo?
I remember a discussion I had with my host family when I was 18. They were evangelicals, Bible and Jesus 8 out of 10 words out of their mouths. Jesus said this and that. Gotta respect Jesus. Bible rules. Cannot go against. But--no but. Rules. Cannot disobey the rules.
And then, in my 18-yo bravery, I say to the mother "but you are divorced. Isn't divorce counter to the teachings of your church?"
To which she reluctantly and extremely annoyed, answers: "yes, but my case was different. We had to do it."
And again, my 18-yo should-have-kept-my-mouth-shut says: "oh. So for everyone, it is the Bible or hell, but when it does not suit you, you go your own way."
It did not end well, that conversation.

"Florida Senate Committee Advances Elections Bill Restricting Voting and Criminalizing Elections"

"The bill requires all first-time voters without a Florida ID or social security number to vote in-person. Previously, these voters could vote by mail — a method over two millions Floridians utilized in 2022 …"

Voter suppression! 😠

Many thanks to @marcelias / @democracydocket for reporting on this ❤️

@RIDDLES Yeah. He’s in trouble. 34 felonies is life in prison for us average folk. We’ll see just how the law treats this narcissistic prick.

This has been a very good day for #democracy. Thank you to all the #SwingLeft #volunteers who have been working so hard for months to help elect #JudgeJanet in #Wisconsin - with more than half a million touch points with voters. #WisconsinSupremeCourt

random shit you learn at cons:

Tom Savini is a really chill dude. he'll just hang out in his merch booth and chat w literally anyone who swings by. he doesn't seem to have any idea how famous he is.

Mehdi Hasan is tweeting that
"Liberal Janet Protasiewicz has tonight beaten far-right conservative Daniel Kelly in the state Supreme Court race in Wisconsin. A huge result."

this has been quite a day

Look, if you don't get what's happening, I can explain it very simply:

The Republican Party exists to tax you and give your tax money to billionaires.

That's it. All the rest, all the bigotry and religion and child kidnapping and foreign wars, exists to distract you so that they can continue to steal.

I could write a million words worth of analysis and not get significantly closer to the truth.

So I think this is the second or may third big US national news story to hit since the post-Elon crush of new users.

I'd say that #Mastodon has easily been as good a source for news links and top analysis than Twitter was pre-Musk, and decently better than Twittter IS now for big breaking live news events.

YMMV, but that is my review.
