It's interesting that a completely nonprofit social media protocol with 11,000,000 users is being deemed a "failure" by some tech media pundits. But also, they make their bones by reporting on corporate drama, stock moves, creeping dark patterns, surveillance, etc.

So, actually, of course they're uninterested in a smallish, boring, mostly-just-working social media project.

Here is a good example. AP headline on the loss of rights by half of Florida’s citizens is “Abortion bans raise fears inside GOP about backlash in 2024”. Framing this as a weak rhetorical move rather than active oppression. Pretty consistent framing of these moves across the country. Rather than “GOP takes away more rights from citizens” it is “GOP appeals to base - will it improve their chances in 2024?”

I am a 60yo white woman in the USA. My demographic isn't awesome.

Yesterday, I got my oil changed. Every employee in the place was a youngish black man.

I was in the bay when I saw a woman walking in with a scowl. She was about my age. I thought "oh please..no...just don't be an asshole."

Turns out, like me, she had massive resting bitch face. she handed off a sack of burgers from Burger King and said "Thanks for the great job. Here's lunch."

So goddamn grateful.

Happy #Caturday Today I'm going with my daughter and her two children to visit my mom to celebrate her 91st birthday.

I adopted the cats in December and the grey striped one still won't let me anywhere near her! The tortie will rub against my legs but won't let me pick her up.

This is the first time I've seen them be affectionate with each other and they are supposed to be bonded sisters (12 years old).

My creed
