A friend of mine, who is mid-transition, works as a substitute school teacher. Recently, her rep from the company who sends her out to various schools gave her a heads-up that she received a nonspecific complaint from a parent, and would not be able to teach at that school anymore. She's not accused of any wrongdoing whatsoever (and the company stands by her) but just like a parent who goes bananas over the title of a book without even reading it, yet still wants that book banned, a parent who finds out a trans person substitute taught at their kid's school can prevent that teacher from working, simply based on their appearance or voice depth.

I cannot imagine just how difficult society makes it to be trans, let alone for a trans person to try to find and maintain steady employment. Everywhere my friend goes, she is the recipient of micro and macro-aggressions from strangers. And what's even more infuriating about the parent's complaint is that the kids were fine with her. It feels a little spammy to just keep posting video clips here, but as we look at Twitter fall apart and ask why we stick around there, part of the reason is to access an abundance of news content easily. So it's in that spirit that we're helping fill the fediverse with content.

@Lockdownyourlife I'm willing to give out a lot of free "I'm just doing my job" passes, but as someone whose main source of income is also comes from my public profile, I've drawn my personal line at donating to Musk's fascist hellscape. When he continues to directly victimize already vulnerable minorities, dismantle the media, and encourage the spread of hate speech, I can't in good faith support that. I've not just refused to pay for verification but abandoned my entire account at great personal cost.

If you're cis, I'd like you to read this article and learn that Missouri is about to enact a full ban on transition healthcare for transgender people. The deadline is April 27.

No cisgender person I've shared this with has had any idea that this is a ban, not a regulation - the requirements are impossible to meet.

I would also ask that you share this information with three other cis people today, preferably ones in or near #Missouri .
