Little things like this.

This I'm pretty sure is a ruby-throated hummingbird (Archilochus colubris), I took the photo late afternoon or early evening the sun was in a non-optimal position from where I was standing. But I kind of like the way it turned out. It has kind of a minimalist feel to it. I'm also pretty sure that this is a male.

Look me in the eye.

This is an indigo bunting (Passerina cyanea). In photographed one of these years ago, before I started watching birds. But this picture is much better. I saw some other birds I haven't seen before which Il'' post at another time. I also saw a yellow barn swallow swoop by in front of me but sorry not photo.

@drhettie Tenure became my super power. It allowed me to speak up, especially on behalf of my colleagues who were not on the tenure track or who were in vulnerable positions. Tenure gave me the freedom to pursue research questions that interested me. It protected me (to a degree) from academic political BS. I was always aware of and grateful for that rare privilege.

In other disinformation news, does anyone in the #fediverse know how I can block a single-user domain? When I go to the profile page, it just gives me recursive "open original page" links I can't get to the profile to block it. And when I click on the three dots on the COVID-19 disinformation post (it's a COVID "hoaxer" account), it doesn't give me the option to block it. Thanks.

It seems like #SpaceX launched the largest rocket ever without any of the usual precautions regarding blast effects and possible debris in case of any failure.

A city covered in dust, concrete debris as big as bowling balls and cars that got hit. What a mess!
