If you don't think Elon Musk will use his control of Starlink's space-based internet monopoly to further his right-wing, authoritative, anti-democratic goals, you're not watching him do exactly that right now with his control of Twitter.

And he's already done it in Ukraine.

A group of friends has spent the most pleasant day out on the water together, and that day is coming to a contented close. Sunset casts its golden glow over water and sky, creating a magical environment that is almost other worldly.

#Osprey are great birds!

They are very vocal with each other and have one of the more pleasant calls for #birdsofprey. I can sometimes get them to respond to my whistled attempts to "talk to them". 🙂

Other fun facts… They only eat fresh fish which they catch themselves.

They have a special wing structure that allows them to plunge feet first into the water without hurting themselves, and special reversible toes to help them hold wriggling fish.

#BaldEagles (those perennial bullies) frequently shake-down Ospreys in the air to get them to give up the fish they just caught. I've witnessed this more than once!

The only reason I'm still on here is that I've learnt to ignore white people's racism and nonsense at a cellular level after a lifetime of it.

I've had white people on here try to correct how I speak, whitesplain what representation means, say that AI images of non-white people are "pointless," and just flat-out patronise me.

And I'm still here.

What if someone isn't as idgaf as me? As militant?

Those people leave. 1/2

At least 9 countries—including in Europe and the Middle East—have brought up Starlink with American officials, with some questioning Musk’s power over the technology.

Few nations will speak publicly about their concerns, for fear of alienating Musk.

Hey vis.social folks!

Please remind your friends and colleagues, who are interested in joining our community here to READ THE SERVER RULES!

You'd be surprised at how many, highly credentialed folks somehow fail to read the instructions and follow the simple rules about applying to join our community.

I'd rather spend my un-paid time supporting our community than reminding folks about our rules.

After over a month of cloudy nights, the sky finally opened up last Sunday night. I took this opportunity to get out and try a new filter I ordered in March and received early July - Astrophotography is definitely exercising my patience.

These are the North America and Pelican nebulae (NGC 7000 & IC 5070) in the Cygnus constellation. The image uses the HOO palette where the Hydrogen emission line (Ha) is mapped to the red channel of the image and the Oxygen emission line (Oiii) is mapped to the green and blue channels.

The dark nebula LDN 935 is a gigantic interstellar dust cloud that separates the two emission nebulae by blocking the light they emit, giving this dark appearance.

Dear corporate media: Please stop referring to the Trump criminal case as the “classified documents” case. Trump was charged with violating the ESPIONAGE Act so please call it what it is: The Trump ESPIONAGE case. Thanks

In their written statements to investigators, the officers were aware of the political context and expressed bias against “antifa.”

“Antifa is known for its violence and hatred towards police,” Merrill wrote. “We were aware of ongoing riots in various cities, including Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon, where violence and demonstrations against police were being conducted in the name of Antifa.”
