Well, mostly forgot about them. They were the "hardcore STEM crew" so I kept popping up wherever they did.

I remember riding with one of their dads down to the state science fair finals. Seeing them at math competitions.

I think if they didn't have some kind of masculinity fear complex we could have been really great friends.

This has mostly been reported as "trans women banned from women's chess" but it's much more sinister. (as if it weren't already.)

ALL trans people are targeted by this ruling. Trans men will be stripped of all chess titles won, which can only be returned to them by “changing the gender back to a woman” (from the ICF’s ruling). ALL transgender chess players will be marked as trans in their files.

If you play or know anyone who does take a stand on this. It's ugly.

The doxing and threats against the Georgia grand jurors is arguably an even worse travesty than the sickening harassment of low-level election workers (though both are unacceptable and frightening).

The jurors weren't there by choice and had no idea what cases they would be evaluating. They were simply ordinary citizens, selected at random, who answered a summons to serve a routine, but critical, civic duty.

This now all-too-common harassment and intimidation of ordinary people caught in the crosshairs of fascist sore losers makes my blood boil. It threatens the underpinnings of democracy and our justice system, and it needs to be responded to strongly, clearly, and quickly.

It's #BlackCatAppreciationDay! Here's my beautiful girl curled up in the sun.

Black cats are harder to place, apparently due to superstition and being less photogenic. Not to mention how they can be treated at Halloween. But I don't know what I'd do without my little familiar here.

We've had her for over 9 years now and she chose us when she, apparently a very timid cat, shoved her head all the way into my partner's coat sleeve in a very aggressive hello to us. We couldn't ignore such a forward greeting. And it's true, she's very cautious around new people. Never seen her say hello in that way to anyone else.
