There are 2.2 million human beings confined in prison and jail cells in the United States tonight. About 500,000 of them are presumptively innocent and awaiting trial, the vast majority are confined by the government solely because they can't pay enough money to buy their release. This country has 5% of the world’s population, but 25% of the world’s prisoners—the highest rate of human caging of any society in recorded history of the modern world. At least another 4.5 million people are under government control through probation and parole “supervision.”

Between 80% and 90% of people charged with crimes are so poor that they can't afford a lawyer. Twenty-five years into America’s incarceration boom, black people were incarcerated at a rate 6 times that of South Africa during apartheid. The incarceration rate for black people in the nation’s capital, where I live, is 19 times that of white people.

Well, I slept last night.

I had to kind of box in my CPAP with some pillows to muffle the noise while still giving it air to work with. Then I had to turn my fan up a little higher so that the white noise coming from it would help muffle the sound of the CPAP even more. It seemed to work. I got better sleep than I do the night before. So I count it as a success.

This is a weird request, but I figure the worst I can get for it is silence. I'm totally #blind and have very bad hearing. To set up a device through its inaccessible software, I'm in need of a sighted person for about an hour and a half to two hours who can access a computer remotely, speaks and reads English, and can describe images and graphs. The person needs to be quite patient with follow-up questions, needs to be willing to repeat if needed, as well as be able to click on items and describe what happens on the screen. The person needs to be fairly detail oriented because some of the images appear to have arrows and other ways to expand them, according to the manual. Though I'm happy to be reasonable, I have no clue how much to offer as payment, this is my first request of this kind. I'm posting it because I know we have some blind people here who may be able to point me towards someone who has done this before and may be willing to do it for such a short period.
