57 years ago, a Thursday, NBC aired the first episode of a new space show that would go on to transform society in ways big and small, inspire 11 spin-off series, several movie franchises and whole reams of novels, models, tie-ins and more.
It started as a pitch for " 'Wagon Train' to the stars" but became whole detailed fictional universes inspiring our own real one with a promise that we'll figure this all out and we'll be the better for it. That there's a whole universe out there.
As CNN reports, Arkansas' flagship university med school hospital UAMS has been on an orgy of filing lawsuits — numbers rose from 35 lawsuits in 2016 to more than 3,000 in 2021 — to recover payments owed for medical services, some as little as $100. Those sued include UAMS employees who worked during the Covid pandemic and were then called "heroes" by UAMS.

Quoted in the New York Times, a constitutional law expert says that the RICO case against alleged #StopCopCity activists seems to be as much an indictment of an ideology as a description of actual criminal activity.
This is an old story. After the Haymarket riot in 1886, seven anarchists were sentenced to death, despite the fact that most of them had not even been present at the riot. The governor eventually pardoned and released the ones who had not already been executed, but by then, the state terror campaign had achieved its intended effect.
The Georgia Attorney General hopes to drum up irrational fear of anarchists and use that to secure convictions regardless of the facts of the case. If he succeeds, it will have implications for protesters of all stripes.
Solidarity with the defendants.
They are anti-democratic, because they can no longer win elections.
They are anti-law enforcement because the law holds them accountable for crimes committed to hold on to power.
They play might-makes-right, to override elected officials who get in their way.
They want to control the judiciary for obvious reasons.
The GOP doesn’t care about winning. They’ve resolved to do as they wish, and to take what they want. It’s power play politics — all the way.
They want a White authoritarian gov’t.

Those who’ll be voting for Trump aren’t doing so because they believe he won’t attempt another coup. They’re voting to get him back in office so that he can get right the next time, what he got wrong the last time.
From the presidency, Trump can pull the levers meant to protect our democracy to, instead, weaken and destroy it.
Trump is an enemy of the Constitution. As we well know, he thinks nothing of taking an oath, knowing full well that he plans to betray it.

Jim Jordan thinks he can harass Fani Willis? That is not a contest of equals.
“Your notion that different standards of justice should apply to a select group of people is offensive. Here is another reality you must face: Those who wish to avoid felony charges in Fulton County, Georgia — including violations of Georgia RICO law — should not commit felonies in Fulton County, Georgia.”

Maine's governor is looking at "potential changes to Maine's laws in response to a neo-Nazi training camp reportedly being built in rural Penobscot County".
Training camp. Under construction.
From Florida to Maine, this "few bad apples" keeps coming up, huh?
Every state has this "few idiots" over and over huh? And now they're buying "few idiot" real estate and camps for those "few idiots" huh?
Stop minimizing and start listening.
A white south #Alabama woman is going to federal prison after she hung racially offensive homemade dolls on her Black neighbors’ fence in an attempt to get them to move, prosecutors announced today.
Cheryl Pytleski, 64, admitted in a plea agreement to using the threat of force to intimidate her neighbors because of their race and because they were occupying a dwelling next to her.
Her 12-month sentence is the maximum allowed under the relevant federal statute.
This letter from #FaniWillis to Jim Jordan is giving me life. You really must read it in its glorious entirety to fully appreciate it, but in this short thread, I share some choice quotes. https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/23941234/jim-jordan-letter.pdf 1/ #LawFedi
‘…there is no justification in the Constitution for Congress to interfere with a state criminal matter, as you attempt to do. Furthermore, your note calls to mind another letter recently submitted to a House select committee: “This unprecedented action serves no legitimate legislative purpose and would set a dangerous precedent for future Congresses . . . the American people deserve better.” See Letter from Rep. Jim Jordan to Chairman Bennie Thompson dated January 9, 2022.’ 2/

@trendless it’s just such a GRIND, and NO ONE CARES. Friends have developed autoimmune problems, anemia, tumours .. They just think they’re unlucky.
The parents think their kids got lazy in lockdowns, or the “lack of socialising” is causing ongoing behavioural issues like withdrawal and anger problems.
The over 60s are often confused/angry and having car accidents (along with cancers).
The over 80s have sudden onset dementia and need much higher levels of care.
These are all people I know. It wasn’t like this before. It’s madness.
Outsourcing US defense capabilities to any corporation has always been a national security trade-off, but SpaceX specifically is a private company where a single extremely unhinged pro-Russia troll controls more voting shares than the entire rest of the shareholders combined. Anyone who doesn't see the national security issue with putting a nation's defense capabilities in the hands of a Wish.com Lex Luthor knock-off has actual soup for a brain.

Bear in mind that, while I may "like" your "toot", about a person, event or particular topic, if it links to the "bird-site" I will no longer boost and inadvertently contribute to their grift. Everyone has a choice and a part to play when crimes go unpunished.
