This is cool. In heavily censored countries, people are coming up with open source VPN solutions like Amnezia that allow users to set up their own servers, making it harder for oppressive governments to block https://archive.ph/2023.04.07-091407/https://www.wired.com/story/amnezia-vpn-russia-censorship/

If this insane ruling by the Texas judge is allowed to stand, any drug could be open to being removed by a judge overriding the FDA. And it could go the other way as another judge could literally tell the FDA to approve an unsafe or ineffective drug because a drug maker or a citizen wants it available. This judge is not qualified to overrule or second guess the experts, scientists, and medical professionals on what is a safe and effective medication after intense scrutiny and rigorous testing. And if this stands, what will happen to other regulatory agencies in this country if someone, say, doesn't like the fact they cannot dump sewage in the ocean and sues in court to override the clean water act so he can dispose of his raw sewage in the nearest river or ocean? The ramifications of this ruling could be wide-reaching and devastating to everyone.

Ten days after refusing to approve a lunch program for low-income children, Republicans in North Dakota voted to supersize meal reimbursements for themselves. Sorry kids -- handouts for me, but not for thee.

Despite facing severe punishment for refusing to wear a hijab in public, a rising number of courageous young women in #Iran are defying the oppressive laws and risking everything for the freedom to express themselves and choose how they dress. These inspiring women are leading the way towards a more equitable and just society, where everyone can live their lives with dignity and freedom.

Someone just got upset because I’m not talking about an abortion court case that happened in the USA.
The reason I haven’t is because:
1. I’m not American
2. I’m not a doctor
3. I’m not a lawyer
4. I don’t have a uterus
No one needs me to pontificate on that topic, and I’m more than happy to pass the mic.
We should hear more from people who are directly affected by this decision and/or have expertise.
If you want to know what I think, it’s that folks with a uterus should be heard.
Hey #Hachyderm folks, I’m outta here. Nothing against this instance, which IMHO has the best instance-local feed anywhere, but because I’m about to migrate to #CoSocial, which is a Canadian instance operated by a member-owned co-op. I think co-operatives are a super-attractive building block for the kind of Fediverse we want to inhabit. I blogged the details here: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2023/04/06/CoSocial
(For those I follow, pardon the re-follow notifications you’re about to get.)
North Dakota politicians just raised their meal reimbursement to $45 while rejecting a bill for free school lunch, which costs only $3 per meal. That means, for the price of one politician's lunch, you could feed 15 low-income kids — socialism for me, but not for thee.
Gaming on IBM and compatibles didn’t really get good until Sierra got really popular.
It was adventure games like King’s Quest that made it worth it.
As far as I’m concerned, Robert Williams is America’s Shigeru Miyamoto.
It slightly saddens me that she stopped making games in the 90s but at least she left on a high note, and got to travel.
Finally getting a chance to edit some images that I took at Princeton University in October. I really liked the way the leaves reflection in the window make it look like stained glass! Such great architectural details at Princeton!

Mostly reclusive and carrying slightly damaged goods. A survivor by some accounts. Definitely in need of much therapy. ;)
Staunchly anti-fascist
Bear in mind that, while I may "like" your "toot", about a person, event or particular topic, if it links to the "bird-site" I will no longer boost and inadvertently contribute to their grift. Everyone has a choice and a part to play when crimes go unpunished.
