A while ago, I read about the psycholgical effect that kicks in when someone tries to fight for a good cause, but then makes a tiny mistake.

We are very hard on hypocrisy because our brains like when things add up.

I.e. a climate activist with a plastic cup triggers much harder than Elon taking a 5 minute flight in his private jet every other day.

The first feels wrong, while the second just meets our expectations.

I can't stop seeng this everywhere ever since.

There is no silver bullet solution to mitigating the harm cause by #COVID. We need masks, clean air, vaccines, treatments and more. None of these things are perfect, and none alone are sufficient to prevent all the harm being caused. We need them all. Keep speaking up for layers or protections.

One of the most infuriating things about layoffs is: everybody involved is disincentivized to call them out for the bullshit they are.

The employees who survived don't want to call bullshit, because they want to keep their jobs.

The employees who got laid off don't want to call bullshit, because they have to look "professional" to find a new job.

And of course, no executive wants to call bullshit, because it benefits them not to.

Layoffs are bullshit with a built-in truth shield.

Found this lady insisting on sitting on some eggs today so I replaced the measly 2 she was sitting on with 9 fresh eggs I was saving to incubate. It’s her first attempt at motherhood so hopefully in ~21 days she’ll have some cute little chicks following her around.

I had a little over an hour before moonrise last night, and this is what I chose to do with it. This is NGC 4038/4039, more commonly known as the Antennae Galaxies. They don't rise very high in the sky from where I live, which makes them a challenge to photograph, especially since they are quick to duck behind one of my trees, moon or no moon. They have faint tails, but it takes more than 75 minutes of data to bring them out clearly.
