I don’t remember who here recommended that I read City of Bones by Martha Wells. But I just started it this morning and I’m already 100 pages in. It’s very good. Thank you.

I was on Twitter for five years and I ended up with 8,000 followers.

I've been on Mastodon for five months, and I already have 16,000 on here.

I think the biggest difference is that Mastodon just leaves me alone to do whatever I feel like doing, whereas Twitter would go out of its way to punch me in the head anytime I tried to enjoy the platform.

This is how we know we live in a nation that values guns more than it values lives; a nation that turns every gun massacre into a defense not of people but of guns; a nation that has prioritized the ease of those who feel they might need to kill somebody someday over the lives of those who would prefer to not be killed.

It’s something that would be difficult to believe, if you actually considered victims of gun violence to be people.

This is a picture of Godshill village, on the Isle of Wight - a place where time appears to almost stand still.
I'm really pleased with the retro feel of this shot - which looks like a black & white postcard but was, in fact, taken just last week.

If you check out the reply to this post you can see the same scene from about 100 years ago. I imagine it's looked like this for at least 150 years.

The beautiful #CullasajaRiver flows down the mountain in the #NantahalaNationalForest of #WesternNorthCarolina from Highlands south to Franklin and beyond. At times serene & slow moving as in this picture & at other times, raging & tumultuous. However you find it, it’s a lovely tree-lined oasis in this hectic world.
