Napa Morning

I love driving up into the Napa Valley in the late fall and early spring in the early morning. The weather is cooler and the roads are less crowded. On top of that the sun is lower in the sky and seems to create excellent lighting of the vineyards.

Holy cow, this plot twist. All I’m saying is that when I write the book, somewhere near Chapter 9 or so, there’s a turn of events that’s so absolutely wild and completely unforeseen that you’re going to think it’s make-believe.

Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)

This is a male pileated woodpecker, I took this photograph a few months ago. I saw a couple yesterday, but just a quick glimpse They landed in a nearby pine tree on their way somewhere to the west. That's how most of the forest birds move around, small hops from tree to tree. I suppose it's safer.
