Important message to the public: new kittens! Say hello to Mipha and Riju (yes, all our cats have #Nintendo names 😄).

I checked out Threads. Not impressed. I like it here. It bothers me that more folks won't give this place a chance. I like the fact that it's a bit harder to use- I'd rather be with folks who have to think about their social media, you know? Reminds me of the good old days. Also, (changes topic abruptly) Star Trek SNW was again just delightful. What a gorgeous cast. I could just watch them walk around and look good- plot not needed.

@StillIRise1963 WTF is that teachers are underpaid wile urged to attain higher degrees. Local teachers in TN provide students with the materials they need in class. And they aren’t reimbursed.

As many if not most of you know, I have been writing about the ethical, epistemological, and social implications of of GPT-type tools since shortly after they hit the scene, and I've been writing about those same implications in "A.I." for a lot longer than that.

Now I am proud to present my article "Bias Optimizers," wherein American Scientist Magazine gave me the space and time to talk about those all of those things, to a very wide audience. I hope you enjoy it:

The Canary Islands create swirls in the sky 🌀

They’re called von Kármán vortex streets: a repeating pattern of swirling clouds made as the atmosphere interacts with the islands.

The U.S. government needs to leave Twitter and state that privately owned social media is unreliable, prone to corruption and full of misinformation. It should open its own instance in the Fediverse and tell citizens they can find reliable information there.

This happened in Los Angeles??

In 2023?

Seriously, WTF, people of America? #BlackMastodon https://www.rawstory.com/sylmar-christian-fellowship-church/

sorry I couldn't resist

Twitter: I follow news and political giants, but all I see are bad people and arguments
Bluesky: I follow 10% of my old friends who were able to get out of twitter in time and sometimes it works
Threads: I follow my friends but I can’t see them through the algorithm of businesses
Mastodon: oh look a beekeeper in the Netherlands

What is it called when something makes you laugh, but also makes you want to cry a little?

I find the juvenile starlings have a kinda gothic look to them. This is one of the many visiting starlings in the garden today.

I'm at "maybe I should buy a forge and crucible" part of my journey to being a full-blown bog hag. You?
