If Twitter and Facebook users are tired of working the social media fields for the benefit of their masters, and individually want to make their way over to Mastodon, I'm all for it, and they'll be heartily welcomed.

But the overlords who're eyeing fedi as another rich field for occupation and extraction? They can f*ck off.

Never on the bird site, but when I heard about Mastodon I thought it would be for old fossils like me, so I joined. Happy to be here as it is a very #Canadian space, warm and friendly. After doing some thinking it turns out I’m a devout #atheist. This got me thinking about how churches are subsidized in Canada, so now I’m going to do something about it.

I posted about this very cheap printer before, which strongly suggests that there is No USB, only Wifi. When I first got it I figured out how to print over the network without using the app they try to bully you into downloading.

It turns out it's even easier to print, just use the USB port they try to pretend isn't there!

No company is going to rewrite their firmware to remove the USB stack. It's even more expensive to redesign the hardware to get rid of the USB port physically. They opted for the cheapest option, a little sticker.

They are just trying to store everyone's documents in their stupid cloud service that some teenage extortion group is going to break into and leak one day. Don't give them your data.

The dead, I can handle. They usually keep to themselves, and don't have much to say.

Every once in a while I find myself in a state of disbelief at the state of the Republican Party in the U.S. We are no longer a two-party democracy. We have one major party and a cultish criminal organization.

@pkw I cannot agree with this enough. Considering the itchy trigger fingers on sanctioning countries, and that most of global warming is owned by 100 companies, which are in turn owned and operated by clearly identifiable human beings, we must sanction out those companies just like we currently do to countries.

I've just got to say how happy I am with the Mastodon community, especially all the science/space people that I'm following. This place is the clear winner after the social media meltdown, despite its outstanding issues and missing features.

What makes me even more excited is that it's open and unmonetized, so it's completely immune to shareholder demands or the whim of a billionaire.
