With zero surprise whatsoever, we find that the Jacksonville shooter is:
1. A nazi (literally. He had swastikas on his firearms).
2. Left a hate manifesto and targeted people of color.
3. Was a white guy in his 20s.
4. Used an AR-15 platform rifle (as well as a Glock sidearm).

Jackass couldn’t fit an American mass shooter stereotype better if he tried. We know who does this. We know what they use. Targeted prevention isn’t hard.

Over the last day a Twitter post went viral for suggesting that the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington, D.C., changed its position on Russia because they made a deal with a Hungarian think tank to collaborate on research.

The NAACP was RIGHT about Florida.

There seem to be a lot of people who don't believe in progress. To help with a bit of perspective, I recommend a visit to an old cemetery. Count the dead children.

I was born in the 1950s with a condition that would have killed me in the 1930s. I grew up with leaded gasoline, coal furnaces, horrible water and air pollution, widespread poverty and ignorance, polio, tuberculosis, measles, mumps, and diphtheria.

I understand the lure of nostalgia. I belong to half a dozen "you grew up in ..." groups on Facebook. I like old pictures and old cars and airplanes.

But don't try to feed me crap about the "good old days." They were not. Especially in the American South. Most of the know-nothings clamoring to turn back the clock wouldn't survive a week without their air conditioning and their cable TV outrage channels.

We don't look at data. We don't look at falling crime rates and rising literacy rates. We experience anecdotes. Much of them are falsehoods being fed to a sedentary population by media that packages tales of murder and mayhem as "entertainment," and outrage as "news."

We don't look outside in our own neighborhoods, much less the world, where 86 out of 100 people can now read and write, and 96 out of 100 children now actually survive their first five years.

Today in Florida a white supremacist used an AR-15 to kill 3 Black people, because Florida demands even white supremacist terrorists have easy access to firearms—but then forbids any child from learning the history of white supremacists mass murdering Black people.

When #Ukraine started the counter offensive, the frontline was 29 kilometers from the Russian stronghold of Tokmak in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

The primary Russian defence line has now been breached, and Ukraine has reduced the distance to Tokmak to 20 kilometers.

When Tokmak falls, Ukraine will be able to hinder Russian logistics through their land bridge to Crimea.

Any American or European politician who has claimed, this counter offensive was failing, clearly did not know what was going on.

We don’t talk enough as a society about the random explosion in Richmond, Indiana, in 1968 that killed almost 50 people and injured another 150. It was really serious but I wonder if anyone here without googling it even knows about. #weirdhistory
