The United States has the most violent, the most expensive and one of the least effective police forces in the entire world.

Respect needs to be earned.

A five-minute #COVID19 update 🧵:

- COVID is still rising in the US, but it appears to be doing so at a slower rate. It is very uneven across the nation, however. I predicted six weeks ago this surge would be worst in the South due to heat and time indoors in air conditioning. Currently, the 10 counties with the highest COVID hospital admission rate are in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, and Louisiana. The next ten are almost all in the Plains and Texas. https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/these-are-the-top-covid-hot-spots-in-the-u-s?src=usn_tw

@CAnxiolytic I don't understand how you can live in this country and not care about who runs it and what they do while running it. It's beyond ignorant. It's destructive.

I don’t know a damn thing about the average sentence for someone charged with insurrection, but I do know that if these Jan 6th yahoos had been mostly black, they would be much more likely to be receiving the 30+ year sentences sought by prosecutors and recommended by sentencing guidelines. Sure, watching them get put away for 17 years is nice, but black kids do more time than that for selling weed.

I've been coding professionally for ~30 years. @dachary 's been doing it for ~3? (depending on where you count from)

This morning she gave up some of her time to teach me some geeky coding 💩 i needed to learn for #DevGood but knew nothing about.

I can not express how awesome that is.
My wife's pretty bad-ass. 🥰

"Elon Musk Wades Deeper into Antisemitic Propaganda - The CEO is helping to amplify a hashtag campaign against the Anti-Defamation League, a civil rights group that combats hate speech"

Musk is a truly disgusting human being.

Good morning. 🌕🌕🌕

1 September 2023

I'm not quite fully awake yet even though I just finished my first cup of coffee. To be fair, I stayed up just a little late last night to capture the moon. Don't worry, it was a catch and release kind of thing. :)

Charlie just came in and plopped down, which probably it's getting close to breakfast time. I'll have to get up and tend to that before I finish rambling.

Now, where was I? The pigeons are here already this morning. It is easy to find my house in the morning, it's the one with the flock of pigeons circling around overhead. I think I'll put my bird feeders up this morning. Hmmm ... I think a nap would be nice.

@Alice @talia_christine Rare picture of Pac-Man’s skeleton.

I've found something else I'm no good at photographing: the moon.

The 1st image shows some details of the moon. Everything else is underexposed and utterly dark.

The 2nd image shows improved exposure around the moon, with some surrounding detail. But the moon is so overexposed, it looks like the sun.

How do you get the best of both worlds without combining images, or manipulating things with an editor?

Happy Caturday!

A great way to use a whole bunch of peppers from the garden - sausage and peppers sautéed and served over rice.
