This is the famous Pont du Gard, in southern France. Built in the C1st CE, it once carried about 40,000 cubic metres of water a day to the Roman city of Nemausus (modern Nimes).
I was camping nearby a few years ago, and got up especially early to see this magnificent structure as the sun came up. It was so early there were no tourists on it yet, and I had the whole scene to myself. It was a magical half hour.

While 'samurai' is a strictly masculine term, the Japanese bushi class (the social class samurai came from) did feature women who received similar training in martial arts and strategy.
