I recently responded to a follower who helpfully suggested that I link (with hashtags?) names of people whose work I'm citing or excerpting when I post here daily.

I would gladly do this, but am not sure whether the suggestion is to link with # or an @ if the person is on Mastodon. I find that not a few people whose work I cite do have Mastodon accounts, but those often are simply links to their accounts on the bird site — and I do all I can never to link that site.

It's so excruciating to watch a huge segment of our population glorify, adulate, worship, trust, accept as legit, admire such a genuinely bad, EVIL, hateful, malignant excuse for a human being (& his thugs).

And it's beyond frustrating, alarming that a deranged, perverse menace like him is this difficult to stop. It's madness.

And sometimes, it feels so overwhelming, doesn't it?

@wdlindsy It kind of is a wonder really. I grew up in a Republican military family in the 60s and 70s. My father, who served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam would be utterly shocked and completely appalled. Unless, of course, he had been fed a steady diet of RW radio and news for the last thirty years. Then it makes total sense. When are they going to ban Fox "News" from military bases? We are slitting our own throats allowing that to continue.

As we face yet another Govt shutdown I reflect on these absurdities. In the United States:
•1 Senator can block all military confirmations—but it takes 60 Senators to overrule him
•1 Speaker can shut down the entire government—but it takes 218 House Reps to overrule him
•1 bought SCOTUS Justice can strip away rights for hundreds of millions of people—and it's virtually impossible to remove him

This is not a functioning democracy. It is GOP exploitation. Vote GOP Out. Reform our government.
