I’ve been thinking about the larger implications of #MatthewPerry ‘s passing. He has been struggling with addiction since Season 2 of Friends); he’s professed a profound sense of loneliness; and the specifics of his death - based on what we know - feel tragic in the Ancient Greek sense. Here was an individual who climbed to the very pinnacle of what this society would consider success and yet lived a life in such profound misery. I think speaks with profound sorrow to the world we have built.

So, it's officially been (a bit over) a year since I came to the fedi. I don't miss Twitter at all. I miss some people there, of course. But I don't miss the "gotcha" culture, the near-constant mansplaining, all the tiny bits of nastiness that just wear on you, day by day. And of course, that was before it became all of what it is today. Thank you, friends for a great year. Looking forward to many more.

Eleven years ago today, as we waited for Superstorm Sandy in NYC, I created this image to make fun of all the hot air coming from Donald Trump. (That was the view from our Jersey City apartment.) Today, it doesn't seem so funny. Less than 3 years later, he'd announce his presidential bid, and since then, he's done far more damage to the US than any hurricane. He's still at it. Trump has become a permanent hurricane that never leaves, flooding the airwaves with BS and damaging the entire nation.

There’s a term “stochastic terrorism” when someone triggers others to act so can claim he had nothing to do with it. The law isn’t good at stopping this. But Trump is now a criminal defendant, subject to limitations. Courts must now use their power to stop his online terrorism.

Lucas sipped his Aldeberan absinthe, a lovely, delicate taste of green anise, sweet fennel, and culinary herbs, such flavors were not possible in absinthe from Earth. The point Lucas missed was that he'd ordered medicinal Aldeberan absinthe, a thousand-year-old recipe created for nobility. The infusion included a relative of CHRISPR, designed to realign the drinker’s health with the ideal Aldeberan. Lucas looked down and saw his hand had turned green, but he was too drunk to care.

Christianity is in decline throughout the industrialized world. In the UK, it is declining more rapidly than in the USA. In Scandinavia, it is already pretty much irrelevant.

If you interview those currently leaving Christianity in America, they overwhelmingly say it is because they no longer wish to be associated with evil, and the things they point to are pretty effectively summed up by this moron.

Ross remembers being scared because it was impressed on him just how serious the competition was.

He really didn’t want to make a mistake or miss some words.

Ross remembers his grandmother standing over his shoulder, and when he stumbled a few times over words, she helped him by repeating them so he could continue with the pace of the voice on the radio.

Young Ross and his grandmother are pictured.

"Nowhere in Gaza is safe, and the conversation in Gaza, I’m afraid to say, has changed. No longer are people saying, ‘Where do we go to be safe?’ – the question they are now asking is, ‘Where do we want to be when we die?’"
