Google’s expert witness revealed that #google pays #apple 36% of their search advertising revenue that come in through Safari, in return for Apple keeping Google as the default search engine on Safari.

I’m not sure how much money that is, but it’s probably in the $10B/year range. In the face of this revelation, I don’t think it’s credible for Apple to say that they pick Google as the default search engine on Safari because it’s the *best* search engine for their users.
