Did you know Monopoly was invented by a woman named Elizabeth Magie in 1903?

Originally ‘The Landlord’s Game,’ it was designed as a protest against the big monopolists like Carnegie & Rockefeller.

But it was Charles Darrow, an unemployed salesman, who eventually sold it to Parker Brothers after playing a version.

Parker Brothers credited Monopoly with saving their company. Magie died in 1948 without recognition. Darrow became very wealthy & his legend lives on. #history

Like a lot of creators, I was enticed by NFTs and the promise of a new creator economy. To me, it was an opportunity to assign value to digital goods, to sell digital copies of my books and art prints. After engaging with the space for 4 years, losing my life's savings in a hack, being doxxed, receiving death threats and being abused by speculators when they couldn't flip my art and books for a profit, I can tell you now: my best advice is to stay away from it all.

I just agreed to have a documentary filmmaker come film my farm and my sky full of satellites in February. This'll be interesting!

(I've done this before with a CNN crew https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/04/world/satellite-pollution-night-sky-view-scn/index.html, but I think the documentary aspect will be very very different)

I hope this documentary will be a powerful tool for telling people how the billionaire space race is destroying so much: the atmosphere, the environment around rocket launch sites, and of course the increasingly bad mess in orbit.

Twitter elites are dopamine addicts. I get plenty of good information here, from full-fledged journalists, to the people I would have 'friended' on Facebook 15 years ago (yourself included). If the 'elites' aren't providing it, someone else will. There is still excellent journalism being passed along on Mastodon and the fediverse, in general.

Bluesky and Threads will have their place. I trust this place will continue to grow, too.
