Introduction time for me, an #EU funded science project called #AI4Life.
TL;DR: we build a #ModelZoo (bioimage.io) to facilitate #DeepLearning based image data processing on #microscopy data obtained in a #LifeScience context. Why? Because it is important to make the most out of all the amazing data out there!!!
Our 10-partner consortium will build an open, accessible, community-driven repository of #FAIR pretrained #AI models and develop services to deliver these models to life scientists, including those without substantial computational expertise. #AI4Life will provide direct support and ample training activities to prepare life scientists for responsible use of #AI methods. Additionally, #AI4Life will drive community contributions of new models and interoperability between analysis tools. #AI4Life will also facilitate #OpenCalls and public #Challenges aimed at providing state-of-the-art solutions to unsolved image analysis problems in life science research.
#AI4Life brings together #AI/#ML researchers, developers of #OpenSource image analysis tools, providers of European-scale storage and compute services, and European life science #ResearchInfrastructures -- all united behind the common goal to enable life scientists to benefit from the untapped, tremendous power of AI-based analysis methods.
Check out our model zoo at bioimage.io… #joinus
Let me introduce myself! My name is Ilenna Jones, I am a computational neuroscientist with keen interest on how dendrites contribute to a singular neuron's ability to compute functions and learn tasks. I build biophysical models of neurons in #pytorch and use #deeplearning principles to investigate how #neuron models can learn and compute given their biologically realistic constraints.
I'm looking for postdocs right now! Feel free to connect if you're looking for someone like me!
I'm very interested in helping other students find resources and guidance as they consider science and #neuroscience in general. Feel free to connect if you're looking for advice/perspectives!

Listen. dear #SfN2022 people. My incredible amazing wife
@analog_ashley wrote and published an amazing book in the pandemic while teaching biology labs over zoom & shipping homemade science experiment kits to students. She never got to celebrate her book launch
I don't know what you get up to at your fancy neuroscience party but this book NEEDS to be celebrated. Check out her panel on monday at 3pm (https://abstractsonline.com/pp8/#!/10619/session/266) and consider sharing this great book with your students 🙏🧠
Now that this thing has taken off and I've (almost) figured out how it works- a proper #introduction!
I'm a Group Leader in the #neuroscience program at the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown in Lisbon, Portugal. My lab studies neural circuits for learning & coordinating movement.
I'm still not sure if moving here will capture the best or circumvent the worst of the birdapp. Meanwhile, https://fedifinder.glitch.me is helpful for finding people. Can anyone recommend a good #mastodon app for #iOS?

Deadline in 3 weeks!
Speaking of #celegans ... now the wireless #connectome!
"The neuropeptidergic connectome of C. elegans" by Lidia Ripoll et al. 2022, a collaboration between Isabel Beets', Petra Vertes' and Bill Schafer's labs https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.10.30.514396v2
"This connectome is characterized by a high connection density, extended signaling cascades, autocrine foci, and a decentralized topology, with a large, highly interconnected core containing three constituent communities sharing similar patterns of input connectivity. Intriguingly, several of the most important nodes in this connectome are little-studied neurons that are specialized for peptidergic neuromodulation."
Here is my #introduction. I am a biologist interested in #neuroscience and the #evolution of cells and nervous systems. My research group studies #ciliated marine larvae from a whole-organism perspective, combining behaviour, #connectomics, #imaging, #CRISPR, #modelling and other approaches. We love marine #larvae, their #neurons, #cilia, and #neuropeptides.
#introduction I’m Anne, Professor in #neuroscience at Fribourg University. In our #Drosophila lab, we work on neuronal circuits for reproductive behavior and acoustic communication, sex differences of the nervous system and the signaling function of seminal fluid. I like #arthopods #sexualselection #matechoice #spermcompetition #microscopy and #connectomics
Used to work with #zebrafish #development #axonguidance
Also teaching and keen on #embryology and #histology for medical students...
#joboffer We have open #PhD and #Postdoc positions funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation #SNSF – one week left to apply- work with us on Drosophila neuroscience and sexual behavior in beautiful Fribourg!

some of this summers #pollen harvest. observing naturally occurring fluorescence using #microscopy is fascinating.
My name is Philipp and I am a Professor of Data Science at the University of Tübingen. My lab is at the Medical School and we work on a range of topics in #computational #neuroscience, #machinelearning for #genomics and #medicalAI for #ophthalmology. Also, I care about #machinelearning and #AI for #Africa. Find the start of a lab intro playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL05umP7R6ij33AS48nwsomvYoXAydqY6_ (more videos to come)
After successfully (I hope) moving to my own instance, here's another quick #Introduction:
I'm Daniel, a computer scientist, cheminformatician, and bioinformatician currently working at #EPFL in Switzerland. While I focus on #MachineLearning for drug discovery and development, I also dabble in #Sociology of #Science, #Astronomy, and #DataVisualisation. I also really like #SciComm.
And I really like #punk rock, #hockey, #astrophotography, and #cats.
Hi all, time for a quick #introduction.
I am a research director in cognitive #neuroscience at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris (France). My research group studies human #decision-making: not only how we make decisions, but also why we make avoidable errors under uncertainty. To do this, my group uses mathematical models of #behavior and #brain activity.
I will be posting our new work here, and hopefully more as the science community grows.
I won’t be going to #sfn22 this year, but my work will! Please come by board AA.12 on Tuesday morning around 9 am to learn about the anatomical organization of cell types and inhibitory connectivity across visual cortex. Long story short, layer 2 is really different than layer 3, different excitatory neurons have quite different synapse properties, layer 5 has oodles of very specific inhibition, and we found what seems to be a new class of disinhibition specialist interneurons.
The Scientific Computing Associates (SCA) program at #HHMIJanelia has two openings:
. Machine Learning Software Engineer with #OpenScience Software
. Automating Cognitive #Neuroscience Research with the Johnson Lab
https://www.janelia.org/support-team/scientific-computing-software/scientific-computing-associates
This program is a great chance for people with backgrounds in computer science to explore applications in biological research, and for people with backgrounds in other sciences to expand their experience with software development.
Janelia welcomes and values diversity, and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds, including people of color and members of groups traditionally underrepresented in science.
