I've been playing around with using a message bus system in #love2d to loosely couple modules.

One of the weaknesses of love is that its built in message passing feature (handlers) require modules to know about each other. This makes it difficult to to reuse components between games.

TikTok is adding a feature that will make every video shopping by using AI to recognize objects and allow you to shop for similar things on TikTok Shop.

This will further the current sense that every TikTok video is now trying to sell you something.

"Today we are happy to announce the first step in advancing quantum resistance for the Signal Protocol: an upgrade to the X3DH specification which we are calling PQXDH. With this upgrade, we are adding a layer of protection against the threat of a quantum computer being built in the future that is powerful enough to break current encryption standards." signal.org/blog/pqxdh/

I once spent something like 18 months protesting GitHub every single day over the ICE thing and even I think the “requiring 2fa and supporting several different ways to do it is a very evil bridge too far” people have completely lost the plot

In general, cheating in foundational courses makes one ill-prepared for the more advanced courses.

A physician isn't looking up what "anterior" means, they're checking diagnostic criteria. A software engineer isn't looking up what short-circuit evaluation is, they're checking API documentation. And so forth.

#USA #DNA #FacialRecognition #Algorihtms Privacy: "The detective’s request to run a DNA-generated estimation of a suspect’s face through facial recognition tech has not previously been reported. Found in a trove of hacked police records published by the transparency collective Distributed Denial of Secrets, it appears to be the first known instance of a police department attempting to use facial recognition on a face algorithmically generated from crime-scene DNA.

It likely won’t be the last.

For facial recognition experts and privacy advocates, the East Bay detective’s request, while dystopian, was also entirely predictable. It emphasizes the ways that, without oversight, law enforcement is able to mix and match technologies in unintended ways, using untested algorithms to single out suspects based on unknowable criteria."

In hacker culture this "hate" is typically tongue-in-cheek hyperbole whose payload is a genuine opinion.

Any actual anger might be a mix of fear of becoming obsolete and fear of cultural decay from newcomers not grokking the old ways. But at that point it's hardly about text editors anymore.

@nazokiyoubinbou
The headline feature of nano is that it has basically zero learning curve, which makes it great for quick edits to config files, but this isn't very interesting to someone who has already invested time to become proficient in a more powerful editor.

Only the Itch and GOG releases were in 2023. It was published elsewhere before that.

Valve is seeing an increasing number of bug reports for issues caused by Canonical's repackaging of the Steam client through snap.

The best way to install Steam on Debian and derivative operating systems is to follow the instructions at repo.steampowered.com/steam/ and use the official .deb

We are not involved with the snap repackaging. It has a lot of issues.

If you don't want the .deb, please at least consider the flatpak version.

You should make sure they know they can use an authenticator app of their choice, and reinforce this by naming at least a couple options.
