"For the first time, wind and solar power produced more of the EU’s electricity than fossil gas in 2022. Renewable energies were responsible for a record fifth (22%) of the bloc’s electricity. Hydropower dropped to its lowest share of electricity since at least 2000 due to a 1-in-500 year drought in summer which dried out the continent’s hydro reservoirs.
