@skanman breaking rules-I break them too. And so is every other road user-pedestrians, car and moto drivers, but the stigma is only on cyclists. Difference from motor traffic is that bicycles don’t kill anybody. Re. Influencing-that is a cynical POV. Even if I can’t make a difference I feel better if I try than if I don’t.

Improved pedestrian priority by way of continuous footpath on the main road outside, thanks to my pro-pedestrian changes to planning rules last year.
The original planning application downgraded the pedestrian infrastructure. Planners insisted on maintaining footpath.

@axbom regarding education paragraph- he mentions immediate feedback. This is not necessarily a good thing. As David Epstein writes in Range, many real creative environments are “wicked” with no immediate feedback, and with changing rules. Also he argues that most effective learning in long term looks aimless and disorganized in short term. There are cases where I use repetitive drills, but mostly for skills. I believe AI isn’t very useful for creativity and deep understanding.

First, climate change has already caused widespread and substantial losses to almost every aspect of human life on this planet, and the impacts on future generations depend on the choices we make NOW.
@simoivanov @EU_Commission @TimmermansEU it’s not really that simple- if you measure in energy per kilogram carried and kilometer traveled cycling is by far the most efficient. But weren’t you talking about air conditioning and transporting goods? In that context walking is not really a solution.
@TheWarOnCars I teach science to 14 year olds. The other day we were talking about energy and efficiency of engines. I posed a question - imagine you are buying a new car and know that some of the energy from fuel is converted into heat. If you are to spend 100€ a month on gas, what is the maximum amount you are willing to accept that your car will convert into heat losses. Most said around 30€. When they learned that 70€ is lost one kid said - that’s a robbery!
