To be more transparent about server blocks, I have decided to follow the example of others and publish a list: github.com/Gargron/mastodon.so

That list is now linked from our about page. It also explains how different block severities work.

You might notice that bofa.lol is on the list. It's at the very least a temporary measure because our mods had to deal with a lot of problematic content coming from that place yesterday.

TIL #Devops means the developers find out how much of a hack their #sysadmin are. Where previously code has been hidden in nocks and crannies now a shared repo means code is 'out there'.

On the other hand admins get to find out how much of a pedant their devs are when it comes to code standards.

Done and done @selfagency. The ship posting will go down like A shaky shady titanic. Tyrants come in many forms. Swearing only makes you look childish, kind sirs and madame. :black_block_blob:

I have a copy of Marcus Aurelius's Meditations on my desk at work. It's got a bunch of underlines in it. Every day, I randomly open the book and think about the underlined phrase that jumps out at me first.

unsolicited advice about being kind to internet people

This is, of course, all assuming that the choice you don't agree with is not actual abuse, harassment, directly harmful, dehumanizing behavior, and so on. Don't try to have private conversations with people if it's bad for your safety, mental health, or general wellbeing.

unsolicited advice about being kind to internet people

Edit after v good point from @supercres:

Much of building community is about building trust. If you are part of a community & someone makes a choice you do not agree with, try the following:

- have a private conversation
- ask questions
- assume positive intent (but remember that intent ≠ impact)

Public criticism isn't a healthy first step. It's not healthy for individual people, and it's not healthy for communities. Be good to each other.
