@Romaq

I don't remember ever seeing that note feature. It doesn't show up when you open a profile in a new tab. I almost always open profile pages in a new tab because I like the way it formats that way.

When you type text into that note feature is that something that is visible to everyone publicly or is it visible to the person whose profile you post it to? Or is it only visible to me?

re complexity... Yeah, that's always a problem in SW development, feature bloat. Sometimes, especially with SW that's been around a while and updated a lot, you can change it in a way that actually makes it easier to use while adding new features, but that usually takes quite a bit of creativity and UI experience.

Of course Fedi has the inherent complexity of the structure itself.

"It's the little things"

As I added in some notes about a couple of our Minecraft server's newest players into the "important need to know" channel in our Staff Discord this morning, it occurred to me that you probably don't know that we do things like this behind the scenes.

For example, when a player is young, or not a strong reader, or maybe English isn't their first language, we'll make a note here so that all of the staff are aware to use shorter sentences and easier to read/understand explanations for things... maybe take them into a channel where chat isn't so busy.

Sometimes we have players who are feeling especially alone or ignored in life and we'll make a note here for the staff to take extra special time and care to make sure they get a response in chat or have giving them a special greeting when they sign on, such as "It's really great to see you!"

This is a very busy channel for us, one that nobody on our staff ignores. This way we can all know about the little things with each player to be aware of, to be careful of, and to be thoughtful about... because each player is unique and has something different about them that we should keep in mind.

It says it right in the title of the channel we use, it's "important" to know, because the little things to us are very big things to them.

@freemo Acts like an authoritarian, talks like an authoritarian, enforces at-whim policy like an authoritarian...

Does a blade of grass care if it's eaten by a Marxist Goat or a Fascist Cow?

Romaq boosted

@Romaq tons of them in some cases yes... i was just on the phone with someone telling me about how they keep getting banned for asking about it.

@freemo I'm curious if people are getting banned just for asking questions. >:)

Apparently from what im hearing from people im filling up the conversation on entire local feeds... fun.

@obi No worries. I'm always open to learning more about history. I've made comments about John Adams recently, and together with the image posted I hoped my intent would have been clear.

@obi ANDREW Jackson... ok, and the link gives me something to work with. :) Jackson was definitely a piece of work, but then again that covers a great deal of what has gone on and what is still going on to this day.

@obi Could be worse. @freemo could seek to emulate Second US President John Adams: Obnoxious and Disliked.

@Romaq my only criticism is that he is too nice, welcoming, and accomodating. F&*^+ng boy scout. @freemo

It would be a wonderful discussion on the faith of an angstrom, the faith of a meter stick, the faith of the fixed numerical value of the Planck constant, ℎ, to be 6.626 070 15 × 10-34 when expressed in the unit J s, which is equal to kg m2 s−1, where the metre and the second are defined in terms of the speed of light, 𝒸, and the hyperfine transition frequency of the caesium-133 atom, ∆ν, respectively?

This isn't really a thread suited for that, but I'd be happy to go there on a different thread.

My faith in @freemo is that if I had any evidence he was playing false, I'd drop qoto.org in a heartbeat, possibly giving up on Mastodon all together. I'm not married to this platform. I'm in the position of "I don't have to care at all about this." What could "faith" in @freemo possibly do for me? But I believe the evidence thus far presented, pending further revelation of reliable sources.

That anyone else would accept anything differently is hardly surprising to me. Disappointing, but hardly surprising.

@Pat

"Two federated feeds" with the complaint already "Mastodon is WAY the hell too complex I'll go back to just doing a private blog thank you very much."

The attached image by @MaeGodHaveMercy explains quite well the problem.

"Flag an account" ... If I go to qoto.org/web/accounts/483267 I see a spot to add a "note" to an account. You mean like that?

Edumakayshun is always a problem. People want to "use" not "learn." We're not trying to do Dwarf Fortress style onramping of new folks here.

@freemo @obi

@obi @freemo Logic always is with tribalism. It's just another religion that replaces facts with faith. I get "atheists" seriously wound up when I point out their religious behavior.

Communication allows the exchange of facts, evidence, logic, reason. For some far too lost in their religion (MAGA, Antifa, or whatever), no amount of communication will help, and you have to cut your loss to what you can afford.

But as much as possible, so many problems could be resolved if only we would just keep talking.
