What is #ICWA, you ask?

This act that was signed into law is now being brought into the supreme court by a Caucasian couple who are claiming reverse racism, and are being backed by the lawyers who represent the oil company who put the oil pipeline on the #StandingRockReservstion. #NoDAPL.

Yes, you read that right. The oil company who put an oil pipeline on Indigenous Americans reservation sent their lawyers to back the couple who wants to adopt an Indigenous child...

Republicans are back to their old tricks from the Obama era: blocking qualified federal judges appointed by Democrats so there will be plenty of openings if they can get a Republican in the White House in 2024. Tell Dick Durbin he needs to stop them!

Do I know anyone at Google? Adrian Black’s third YouTube channel was permanently suspended and “it’s final”.

They’re accusing Adrian Black of impersonating…

*checks notes*

…himself.

news.yahoo.com/senate-judiciar In calling for the Supreme Court to investigate itself, Congress is abdicating its own Constitutionally established role as a check on the other two branches (just they are checks on Congress & each other). The “investigation” into the leak of the Dobbs draft, where the justices weren’t actually really investigated, shows the court has no interest in governing itself. Congress needs to step up and do their job.

I've turned into a birthcontrol street preacher. Every time I walk Temple I tell young women to go stock up on plan B and don't take birth control for granted. At least I'm not mumbling to myself. I have daughters and granddaughters and it's DefConLevel One for The Handmaid’s Tale. White Christofascists will not win this.

A handful of billionaires now have unprecedented control over banking, the food we eat, the health care we can access and, now, the information we receive.

This is what oligarchy looks like.

After King was busted embezzling $40 million from the credit union he managed—the Franklin Credit Union—he was accused of being a pedophilic pimp. Republican shakers and movers distanced themselves from him like rats fleeing a sinking ship. But, surprisingly, not Clarence Thomas. He called King’s legal travails “unfortunate.” Though Thomas’ name appears on the invitation list of a 1987 DC party hosted by King, Thomas said he first met King in 1988 at the New Orleans Republican Convention."

It's so cool that a district judge can stay a 20 year old FDA approval because it makes him sad. We should have a random judge in California order the Treasury to pay all medical bills.

North Dakota Republicans rejected a bill giving low income students lunch

What did they do right after?

They voted to increase their own meal reimbursements.

The vote was 26-21 to pass Senate Bill 2124

White Christian conservatives: nature’s snake.

I'm checking out Mastadon after learning that Elon is putting warnings on my substack and blog links. Twitter won't last long, I predict.

Via Soledad O'Brien:

I hate the "America is divided" framing. Show polls because American's overwhelmingly support many policies (stricter gun laws for example. Abortion rights in another.) This framing is lame and unhelpful for an audience.

PBS NewsHour:

"America is as divided today as it’s been in a very long time. I want to know why," Judy Woodruff writes.

If you want to stay on Twitter, suit yourself. But please spare us the absurd assertion that you’re staying for noble reasons, to fight the good fight as an activist against Elon Musk. That’s not how any of this works.

To recap:

Red Kansas—Citizens vote to protect access
Red Montana—Citizens vote to protect access
Red Kentucky—Citizens vote to protect access
Red (gerrymandered) Wisconsin—Citizens vote to protect access

Nationally 72%+ people SUPPORT abortion access. GOP runs on culture wars because they know they can't win on ideas.

If our elected governments won't protect us from the tidal wave of bullshit coming from ChatGPT and the services that use it (Microsoft, Google), then we're going to have to make them regret it.
