@micahflee Nazis? In the Nazi Bar? How did that happen?
Legal experts cheer Trump verdict — and bash CNN town hall: 'Platforming a sexual predator' - Raw Story - Celebrating 19 Years of Independent Journalism https://www.rawstory.com/trump-legal-analysts-verdict-response/
Perfect. Via @emptywheel:
Questions CNN should ask Trump: So are you glad that your penis is so small that E Jean Carroll couldn't see whether you had penetrated her, thereby dodging the rape charge?
"Do you think you were saved from a rape verdict by the fact that your penis is so small?"
"Is that why you're so obsessed with Hunter Biden's dick pics?"
"How does Melania feel about the fact that your settlements with various sex partners and victims will now break 6 digits?"
You have to see this.

At night Russians attacked Odesa and Kyiv with drones and rockets. A civilian building was damaged in Kyiv, there are injured. My morning has started with a message from a friend from that district in Kyiv: “it’s been a hell of a night for us.”

A few weeks ago, I posted a graphic showing the evident relationship between the epidemic of gun deaths in the United States and the out-of-control number of guns owned by "law-abiding" US citizens.

But there's another statistic that illustrates just how ugly and violent the culture of the USA is, from the top to the bottom.
The United States spends more on *war* than the next nine countries COMBINED.
It's sick and disgusting.
Commentator on the #BBC: "Protesting in Trafalgar Square on the day of the #coronation is the same as atheists protesting in a church or Conservatives barging into a Labour party meeting and breaking it up."
NO. IT. ISN'T.
The protesters were about a mile away and were peaceful. They didn't break into the Abbey and disrupt the service.
THERE IS NO EQUIVALENCE HERE.
So, having explored in the timeline some days ago the question of the #coronation coverage & the Q. of BBC 'impartiality' (suggestions for balance included the coverage helmed by Nicholas Witchell and Frankie Boyle)... not only is the BBC not providing a Republican balance in news coverage of the event its allowing the #RoyalFamily to veto coverage as they see fit... not so much news broadcast as royalist propaganda then (not that I expected any different)
⚠️ People have a right to protest.
⚠️ People have a right to express their opinion.
Arrests for peacefully protesting the coronation & saying #NotMyKing?
Appalling.
“It’s something you would expect to see in Moscow not London.” - Yasmine Ahmed, HRW
Just in case anyone didn’t know, the police are currently arresting anyone peacefully protesting against the coronation and its lavish extravagance during a time of national need.
Currently. Arresting. Peaceful. Protestors.
This is not my country. This is a dystopia.
If a public agency wants to create an official Mastodon server it controls (or use one the state has set up) — that's great! They should do that. I'd love to see a dedicated National Weather Service instance, for example.
But this shouldn't happen at the expense of having their web sites actually be **useful**. So start putting all this information on the web again. Get that stuff back into those dormant RSS feeds.
Then pipe that information wherever you want (including Mastodon)!
The so-called "decline of the humanities" is such an epically epiphenomenal problem it is almost laughable. It has absolutely nothing to do with the humanities and everything to do with the fact that, as tuition has skyrocketed, students have become more risk averse, and the advice they receive is that humanities degrees won't help them on the job market. Which isn't true, but is besides the point. The real issue is the price of college.
It seems like #SpaceX launched the largest rocket ever without any of the usual precautions regarding blast effects and possible debris in case of any failure.
A city covered in dust, concrete debris as big as bowling balls and cars that got hit. What a mess!
