My new multi-service social media strategy is that people are terrible and I didn't want to talk to them anyway, just gonna pet my dog.

If a little voice ever says to you “what if you stopped being artificially polite and just told people on social media what you think, and mirroring their attitude and tone back to them, for a day?” you should drink until the voice goes away.

I am sorry to those who came over here with me in November in the hope and expectation that a good chunk of legal Twitter would also come.

Sadly most of the accounts I recommended as they came over then are now fairly quiet on here - many not having posted since December/January.

Am looking out for other legal accounts to recommend - and if you know of any, do let me know.

On the Meta / #Threads issue: although I am more on the side of federating, it's not like a I can't see the danger of having a single monstrous entity possibly outnumbering the rest of the #Fediverse combined. I have no problem server admins choosing not to federate with Threads, I totally get it.

I'm much less keen on the push to make all servers defederate from Threads under the threat of defederation themselves. I think this will just end up in the disintegration of the Fediverse.

I'm seriously wondering which is going to last longer: me or the United States.

The US re-invented itself with the post civil war amendments (13, 14, & 15 - even though SCOTUS tried, with some success, to dismember them.)

We are going to need a similar re-invention, one that redresses power imbalances (like excess executive power, filibuster, emperor-for-life judges, unlimited pardon, religion-uber-alles suppression of liberties, etc.)

Otherwise will are going to fracture into coastal areas of wealth and cosmopolitan contact with the world and an fundamental-religionist, agrarian center region that is much like the world of central Asia.

Well, if I can't invest the profits into an upgraded 3D printer (which I don't technically need anyway, as the one I have works fine), I guess I can invest significantly less into a replacement screen for the other 3D printer, to have two running at once.
