A mandatory part of registering for the ALA conference is a Sustainability Pledge. You must pick a thing from this list to be able to register.

It's a little performative maybe, but I don't mind things that encourage people to be mindful about their impact on the planet.

However I will note that "I will attend the conference virtually, stay in my own home, eat my own food, and use digital versions of all conference documents" is not an option on this list. A shame #LibLearnX24 #sustainability

I've been warned by several folks in DMs and Whatsapp messages today that criticising VC funds down under might cost me my career in Australia's tech scene. Their messages were well-intentioned. But to be frank, I just don't give a s**t. The truth matters more. And I won't sycophantically give deference to anyone just because they have money or influence. I just won't.

Haven't seen anything about WV passing a law that schools have to teach "Intelligent Design" in public schools, now. It's not a surprise it passed, nor is it unexpected that it barely made news inside WV, much less outside it. But can we please have a little outrage like the other states get? As a treat? Just for people to know it's getting worse here, and that we exist? I guess it's like no one caring about us not having safe and accessible water, still. Or the air pollution. #USPol #WVPol
