Sure, it's not betraial: that's a well known parassitic strategy of the Radical Party.

I've seen it at work in the Italian Pirate Party and trust me: nothing good can come from those people. They fight high-visibility controversial battles without any intention to win them for real. It's the worst ally you can have, even if they say all the right things you want to listen *in public*.

The audience award of this year's #BigBrotherAwards goes to … #Doctolib for their appointment scheduling portal for medical doctors which leaks personal information to third parties, breaking patient–doctor confidentiality.
Full laudation: bigbrotherawards.de/en/2021/he

It is closely followed by #Google who received the award in the new #WhatMakesMeReallyAngry category for recently exposed large-scale manipulations of the Internet #adtech market, for starving creators and the media, and for dispossessing our digital personalities.

Oh... yeah I see.

Behind the scenes, despite the moralism and all the fuss about social justice and so on, corporate culture is still nostalgic of .

Yeah it's true: we have a vary bad attitude towards slavery in Europe.

And towards unpaid or underpaid work, that is the same form of oppression under a different brand.

“The appropriate technology movement is attributed to E.F. Schumacher, a German-British economist … During the 1970s, he became widely known for his heterodox economic ideas that lambasted the mainstream emphasis on profit over human needs. In his best-known, 1973 book, Small is Beautiful: A Study of Economics as if People Mattered”

His book was titled WHAT? 🥰

Must read it. So sad to learn he died the year after I was born.

Amusing! 🤣

I agree with Linus both on the matter and on the tone BUT

- he is not a physician: technically speaking his words on the topic should be taken as those of the random guy on the street¹
- he called "idiotic" someone he doesn't agree with: how will the Linux Foundation TAB react to this?

AFAIK they should punish him for being unwelcoming, but he is also right and they do not want to be associated with anti-vax.

🤷‍♂️

¹ indeed he also said something most family physicians who actually work with people in their territory would not agree with: the drop in the deaths rate from covid right now is largely due to the summer not the vaccines, in the winter we will see if it worked for real (as I think and hope)

The science denial industry has deep roots - tobacco-cancer denial, lead paint/gas denial and other ancestral forms of commercial denial gave birth to modern forms of denial: anti-vax, anti-mask, "stop the steal" and, of course, climate denial.

The denial industry has a well-developed and constantly evolving playbook.

@ekaitz_zarraga

Several reasons.

First, as you know, I care a lot about the auditatability of software.

I'm also much curious about RISC-V, but I hadn't time to study it despite it looks much cleaner than x86_64.

Finally, these weeks I'm overwhelmed by work and family and cannot hack much for fun, and your text did a good job to remind me that fun.

Thanks. 😉

Well, it explains a lot about the current lack of transparency in the government of , doesn't it?

But if you call them out about this, they call you concern troll.

Been there, done that: gcc.gnu.org/pipermail/gcc/2021

To people diversity really means "all rich Americans, but hey! of different and !"

And when it regards the right group of middle-class male US corporate guys, it stops being a problem at all.
